Professor of Education, Research Chair: Skills Development, Centre for Researching Education and Labour, Wits University
Thoroughly enjoyed this conference, thanks Lazaro! Our paper (The Centre for Researching Education and Labour (REAL), Wits University) looked at recognition of skills and qualifications in the Southern African region; we had an interesting session with a paper looking at the effects of migration on skill formation in Kosovo, with Linda Wanklin and Jehona Serhati, and migrants and VET in the UK with Andrea Laczik. What roles VET can and can't play in supporting migrants, but equally importantly from the perspective of us in the South, how the migration of skilled workers affects our economies and skill formation systems, is going to be an increasingly important issue.
The 9th Stockholm International Conference of Research on Vocational Education and Training just concluded! We meet researchers representing VET systems from 25 countries who presented research findings and networked. Particularly encouraging to have so many young researchers presenting concluded PhD works or theses in progress! Thanks to all for the contributions! Looking forward to our 10th conference in May 2026!

Learn from our proceedings💡🧑🏫👨🏽🏫👩🏻🏫! We continue to share knowledge and research findings related to safety of blood and plasma-derived medicines.
We look back on a very successful IPFA/PEI Workshop that took place in Aarhus, Denmark on 15-16 May. Our 30th Anniversary meeting was characterized by the same high quality and stimulating scientific presentations and engaging discussions with the audience, as we have seen in this long series of workshops which started in 1994, and have evolved with the help of many collaborators into the joint workshop with PEI it has been for the last 20 years. With heartfelt thanks to all who contributed to the success of this year’s meeting! We are happy to announce that the proceedings are now available online: https://lnkd.in/dvVgkeha

Did you know the European Commission launched the European Research Area Platform? The European Research Area (ERA) was launched in 2000 with the aim of creating a single market for research and innovation fostering free movement of researchers, scientific knowledge and innovation, and fostering a more competitive European industry. The European Research Area platform provides space for researchers, innovators, citizens, and policymakers to connect, collaborate, and access the latest information, data and resources related to the European Research Area. Higher education and research are so much linked to each other, therefore another instrument for use at the service of students, academic staff and beyond... https://lnkd.in/dZue_nDn

How do we, as researchers, impact the research? What are the biases in your approach that you can work on neutralising? In which stages of the research process can we integrate reflexivity? Which aspects of subjectivity can be viewed as beneficial/valuable? How do we deal with what we do not know? If you are interested in this topic, join us in Workshop 2: Self-Reflexivity as a Skill to Support Young Researchers in Bridging Theory and Practice: Innovations in Urban Planning Communication" at the AESOP Young Academic Conference. 🏢 Where: Room 2.2.1, Building 2, Leonardo Campus ⏲ When: 09:30–13:00, March 22 🛄 Objective: to help participants reflect on areas of their personal and collaborative work, where reflexivity can help them be more socially and epistemologically responsible. I would like to say thanks to my colleague Aamina Hashmat, our collaborators and discussants: Farah Makki, Beatrice Maria Bellè, Giada Casarin, PhD, Dimitra Xidous, Carolina Pacchi and AESOP YA 2024 Local Organizing Committee, which is led by Abdallah Jreij, Dafni Riga, Danila Saulino.

So powerful to have 4 members of our teaching team attending the The Association for Science Education Conference 2024 at University of Northampton, including our Headteacher. Thank you so much for coming Claire Boyd, your support is very much appreciated, especially as SLT support and a whole-school approach is so important in involving the whole community in creating inclusive science learning experiences and ensuring that none of our young people face barriers to achieving their full potential. Personal reflection on our practice, listening to young people and strengthening policies and procedure is a great starting point. If you are interested in finding out more about the key take-away messages that Claire refers to, I would recommend these resources: IOP Limit Less for teachers https://lnkd.in/ew6hird6 Primary Science Capital Teaching Approach https://lnkd.in/ef4CYtXB Science for everyone https://lnkd.in/ejxejSyq Aspires Research https://lnkd.in/eBFyaUzU

Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow; Fulbright & Erasmus Mundus Alumna; STS. Sociology of Science. Academic Entrepreneurship. Knowledge Transfer. Systemic Approaches; DMP; Data Repositories. Open Data. FAIR Data.
Indeed a relevant but overlooked non-properly-rewarded way of (potentially) having an impact in society from academic knowledge, and also learning from society's knowledge and expertise. An interesting (historical) question would be the socio-political context in which this two-way transfer instrument came into being and was adopted by universities. Was it to compensate the burdens and cumbursome process of transferring knowledge in the form of patents/spin-offs/start-ups? Julia Olmos Peñuela Ana García-Granero Oscar Llopis Francisco Javier Ortega-Colomer I look forward to knowing more about this phenomenon, and the different meanings and uses that different actors and/or stakeholders attach to it.
@INN4ALL will be attending the @IRSPM 2024 Conference in Tampere. Our paper will unveil preliminary findings from a study on university chairs in Spain, portraying them as hybrid structures bridging the realms of science and societal interests. See you there! 😀

4IR AT THE CENTRE OF INSTITUTIONAL RESEARCH AND INNOVATION DAY The Directorate of Research and Innovation (DRI) recently held an Institutional Research and Innovation Day at the Mthatha Campus with the institution’s top researchers interrogating the theme: Shaping the future of society through Research and Innovation. This year, academics, students and researchers sought to have a robust and multifaceted engagement on how they handled changes after COVID-19, including how the research community can help shape the future of Research and Innovation to still meet societal needs in the new reality. Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mashudu Davhana-Maselesele, said: “I am encouraged by where Walter Sisulu University comes from. I see each of you as architects of progress, guardians of knowledge and the driving force behind innovation. You being here means that where others do not see the value of research, you have chosen to tread the challenges of research without looking at the circumstances of research.” Read here: https://bit.ly/3MYk9ov
