The idea that we can collaborate, find peaceful solutions to problems and move big issues forward together as European neighbours is in my mind more relevant and needed than ever - climate, peace, regulation of technology, data privacy and chemicals - there are so many things we must do together. Actually we need to do this globally, but being able to do it in Europe is a start. This initiative is great - we need to know and care about who other Europeans are so we can and want to work together.

⛔️ ICOMOS 🏛️: 5th International Scientific Symposium.- of Icomos Slovenija. The event will be dedicated to the role of local communities in the development of #CulturalTourism and the challenges faced when implementing #SustainableDevelopment policies within #CulturalHeritage sites. In line with the 2022 ICOMOS International Cultural Heritage Tourism Charter, the aim is to highlight the importance of safeguarding cultural heritage and respecting community rights by implementing inclusive tourism policies. Kriton Kuci, our RECAS Fellow, is currently working on the project "Redefining Tourism Narratives: Navigating Beyond Banal Nationalism in Southeast Europe." This study explores the intricate relationship between banal nationalism and tourism in Southeast Europe, with a particular focus on "patriotic tourism" in Albania. Kriton's research reveals how nationalistic sentiments are perpetuated through tourism narratives and practices, often driven by political agendas.   His work examines how these dynamics reinforce national identities and deepen societal divisions in a region historically marked by ethnic and political tensions.   Importantly, the study advocates for alternative tourism models that promote shared futures, cross-cultural understanding, and collaboration. For fifteen years now, the AIVP has been promoting the hashtag#PortCenterbyAivp concept, with the aim of introducing citizens to the complexity of today’s port and enabling them to express their ideas on future projects. Port-city governance is essentially multi-stakeholder. It is based on arrangements that are always different from one territory to another. In this session we will learn about innovative governance in port cities. We will also discuss new ways to valorize and showcase the port city culture. From festive programs to exhibitions by local artists, from heritage preservation and reuse to original shared tourism policies, there is a multiplicity of initiatives that port authorities and local authorities can take together in the cultural field. I was delighted to receive a letter from Stefano DOMINIONI last week informing me of the decision of the Board of Directors of the Enlarged Partial Agreement on Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe (EPA) to renew the European Cultural Route Certificate for the European Route of Historic Gardens . This is a great honour and distinction for me personally and for our organisation established in 2016. We are the only certified garden heritage cultural route in Europe. The cultural routes of the Council of Europe are not, as some people believe, 'tourist organisations'. Allthough for centuries, tourism or mobility in its broadest sense has been a powerful tool and key to explore our surrounding and, as a result, to understand it better. We are ambassadors of the universal values underlying European civilisation and culture having the unique privilege of bearing the official Council of Europe / European Institute of Cultural Routes, Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe Programme label. The certification as a “Cultural Route of the Council of Europe” is a guarantee of excellence. Within the framework of the Cultural Route we implement innovative activities and projects pertaining to five main priority fields of action: 1) co-operation in research and development; 2) enhancement of memory, history and European heritage; 3) cultural and educational exchanges for young Europeans; 4) contemporary cultural and artistic practice; 5) cultural tourism and sustainable cultural development.
