Artemis Technologies Ltd has secured a major contract with the Swedish Maritime Administration (SMA) to build and supply a 100% electric pilot boat to play a key role in Sweden’s shift towards fossil-free maritime operations. The new pilot boat, powered by Artemis Technologies’ advanced eFoiler system, will be the first of its kind to operate in Nordic waters. “Our eFoiler technology marks a new era in vessel building. We are thrilled to collaborate with Sweden on this innovative project that aligns with their vision for a sustainable maritime future,” said Dr Iain Percy OBE, CEO of Artemis Technologies. “The Artemis EF-12 Pilot boat will set a new standard in emission-free operation while delivering the reliability needed for vital pilotage services.” Hydrofoil technology Designed for high-performance, the vessel will support the SMA’s mission to provide efficient and sustainable pilotage services, helping Sweden achieve its ambitious goal of net-zero emissions by 2045. Utilising hydrofoil technology, the pilot boat will lift above the water to reduce drag, enabling greater energy efficiency and quieter operation. This design also minimises wake, protecting marine ecosystems and reducing the environmental impact on shorelines and other vessels. This electric pilot boat represents a key advancement in vessel building, reinforcing Sweden’s efforts to decarbonise its maritime sector. Avflight Corporation begins offering SAF at Mesa FBO in Arizona Avflight Corporation announced that it has begun supplying sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) at Falcon Field (KFFZ) site in Mesa, Arizona in partnership with fuel supplier Avfuel. “We are incredibly excited to offer SAF at our Mesa location,” said Aaron Mauer, senior regional manager for Avflight. The SAF was produced by Neste in Long Beach, California and has one of the highest blend ratios available in business aviation to date (30/70 SAF to petroleum-based jet fuel). Elfly Group and Nordic Seaplanes Sign Deal for Up to 15 Electric Seaplanes How will electric seaplanes reshape coastal air mobility? Elfly Group has signed a memorandum of understanding with NORDIC Seaplanes for the purchase of up to 15 Noemi all-electric seaplanes, with the initial purchase of five and options for 10 more. The deal, worth up to $150m, positions Nordic as the launch customer for Elfly’s aircraft following its planned certification in 2030. Nordic Seaplanes, Europe’s only scheduled seaplane operator, currently runs daily services between Copenhagen and Aarhus. With a focus on decarbonizing aviation, Nordic plans to expand its operations to locations such as Gotland, Stockholm, and the Canary Islands, while embracing Elfly’s sustainable, zero-emissions technology. Saildrone Inc has released a detailed assessment of the company’s carbon emissions and the emissions avoided through the utilization of its innovative uncrewed surface vehicles (USVs) in its first annual Carbon Impact Report. 💡 This report confirms Saildrone’s commitment to driving sustainability and protecting marine ecosystems and showcases the positive environmental impact of the company’s operations. ♻️ The report reveals that in 2022, Saildrone avoided 99.9% of comparable ocean data collection emissions across all ocean research, seafloor mapping, and maritime defense missions and 143% of its own total emissions (including Scope 3 downstream sources of emissions). 🌊 Saildrone’s innovative approach to maritime data collection, using wind and solar-powered USVs, offers a sustainable alternative for collecting high-quality ocean data at a tiny fraction of the carbon footprint. ⛵️ Saildrone USVs have already sailed more than 1.1 million nautical miles and spent more than 36,000 days at sea collecting vast amounts of data in support of the Blue Economy and maintaining a safe and healthy ocean.
