We're delighted to be at the Strategic Navigation Forum today in Brussels, organised by JPI Oceans, a Decade Implementing Partner! This high-level gathering aims to pioneer discussions on the future of marine and maritime research and innovation, looking beyond 2025. Alison Clausen, Deputy Coordinator of the #OceanDecade, will take part in the panel on marine and maritime priorities in the European and global context, happening at 1.15pm CET. Ocean Culture: port to port & Water Cycle (19.3).

A good overview of Fokker Next Gen plans in the latest edition of the European Regions Airline Association magazine, p.18:  https://lnkd.in/ggJRhShU In the last days, I have heard several times the “chicken and egg" metaphor applied to hydrogen. For sure, the success of hydrogen powered aircrafts is also largely dependent on a systematic deployment of hydrogen, including adaptation of airport infrastructure. However, innovation doesn't wait and Fokker Next Gen has chosen a pro-active approach and is designing a dual fuel aircraft: it will be able to fly on hydrogen and when not available on SAF or jet fuel.  This technology will offer greater flexibility for the customer and also enable aviation as an industry to become greener before all the related infrastructure will have adapted! 🛩 🌿 #innovation #technology #hydrogen #aviation #sustainableaviation #EUaviation #futureoftravel 

The 2. panel discussion moderated brilliantly by John Mawer and the topics was about the future for destinations which Crystal Morgan had a question about; What is the “theme” for the ports and destinations to have in mind for the future? 2026?⚓️ Some of the answers was to extend seasons, find your USP and open communication. Mary Bond asked; How does the Baltic calls look like in the future? The answer could be smaller ports are getting more popular⛴️ #cruiseeurope #CEC2024

🇬🇧🇫🇷 I am thankful to Their Excellencies Rosie Seville and Marine de Carné-Trécesson, who respectively represent the United Kingdom and France for welcoming the Franco-British Council's Franco British Young Leaders - Avenir Franco Britannique (Young and Local Leaders Alumni) to the International Maritime Organization in London. It was fascinating to learn about the wide range of issues being addressed at the IMO, including dark fleets, the welfare of seafarers, autonomous shipping, fuel innovations, and decarbonisation efforts. Unlike other United Nations specialised agencies, voting power at the IMO is determined by the size of a Member State’s fleet. As a result, countries that hold significant influence in other fora may not always have the same sway here. It was therefore encouraging to note the presence of a European Union coordination committee, which ensures common positions are presented, alongside the strong bond of partnership between France and the United Kingdom. It’s promising to think this bond may grow even closer in the months to come. As two nations with a rich maritime heritage, shared values, and aligned interests, and whose common link is the Channel, it was reassuring to witness the strength of our Franco-British partnership.

Olivier Lemaitre and myself had the opportunity to raise the concerns of the European space industry at the European Space Forum 2024 in Brussels. If we want to safeguard the capability of our industry to deliver key space infrastructures and services to our institutions, there is one urgent way forward: devise and implement a coherent Industrial Strategy for Space at European level

Maritime Innovation Forum on 5th November at Newcastle University Designed as an opportunity for businesses in or on the periphery of the maritime, marine, naval, offshore wind or ocean science to understand the range of support on offer to help business to create commercially viable innovation. The event is intended as a one stop shop showcasing: - Access to #grants and #investment - Support from local and national #research partners - Access to research assets and programs - Access to skills In addition the event will showcase the assets, exemplar business case studies and forthcoming strategic investments in the North East in addition to ample time for networking and collaboration. In order for the sector to innovate and solve the considerable challenges of decarbonisation, digitisation and of course finding the right talent we will require ideas from sectors outside maritime so if you don’t consider yourself a maritime business please don’t be put off, much of the content will be applicable to cross sector businesses. Content will be focussed around innovation but will be in language suitable for the non/semi-technical. I tend to disagree with the way it's put on the first page of the document from hashtag #europeanspaceforum, as it can be read as "Europe's freedom of action and autonomous decision-making are at risk because the providers of the data are private industrial companies". And I really hope that this is not exactly what ASD-Eurospace wanted to say. Because I think the problem is not that the government depends on private providers of solutions, nor in the "private" character of industry per se, but rather that the existing support measures for private companies in Europe are insufficient to ensure EU freedom and autonomy in space. This is why a consistent industrial policy is so important and indispensable for the EU space sector in a first place! Olivier Lemaitre Charles Galland

Today the European Ocean days have started with the #EU Mission " Restore Ocean and waters" Forum. Mr Pascal Lamy invited all the stakeholders to "help" implementing ambitious goals. Harnessing all forces, this is actually the aim of the Post 2020 MPA Roadmap adopted in 2021, further to 2-year participatory procesd, at the Mediterranean MPA Forum.
