📣🆕ENC Analysis is out 👉🏽 “Film festivals and cities: A view for south-eastern Europe” by Dr. Eleni Sideri, ENC Academic Council Member and Assistant Professor at the Department of Balkan, Slavic & Oriental Studies of the University of Macedonia. In this ENC analysis, Dr. Sideri examines how film festivals in the southeastern European periphery contributed to the transformation of #Thessaloniki🇬🇷, #Sarajevo🇧🇦 and #Tbilisi🇬🇪 into regional film centers. The paper studies the ways film festivals, especially film markets, became a tool for cities to address economic and political challenges raised within the framework of #Europeanization 🇪🇺 but also, how the past through cultural memory seems to entangle with these changes and become an important factor for the transformation of these cities. Digital Economy, Creative Industries, Public Relations, Media and Development | 🎓 Economic Policy and Analysis (EPOG+)
Between 2013 and 2023, only Nepali fiction films that address socioeconomic challenges have been selected for A-list international film festivals such as Sundance, Cannes, Berlinale, Venice, and Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). While highlighting these pressing social issues acts as a window into the country’s diverse and complex societal dynamics, it also leads to imply if this is a set formula to make it into the A-list festivals. It also raises questions about the broader implications for creativity and the portrayal of the nation’s cinematic landscape. A small reflection piece I wrote, let me know what you think! #internationalfilmfestivals #socialstorytelling #creativeeconomy #nepalicinema

Film Entrepreneur | Film & TV Producer | Virtual Production Producer | Sharing my knowledge for indie filmmakers to get money to make their movies, grow their audience, and earn an income.
Incredibly insightful thoughts about the current situation in the industry and the changes that need to be made. Take some time to read the latest Nostradamus report. If you follow Ted Hope’s newsletter, you’ll enjoy the insight he adds into this report. Film i Vast’s Tomas Eskilsson has enlightening thoughts on the current film funding models and the theatrical ecosystem. I enjoyed Robert Franke insight on the creator industry within the film/tv industry. Joanna Szymanska comments on choosing collaborators with smaller budgets because of their qualities as human beings as opposed someone not so friendly who gives you money. Hannah Reifgerst is spot on with her analogy of the opera for adults to the cinemas for teenagers. For many it’s only affordable for a once a year type of experience. There is so much more wisdom and insights to ponder in the report from: Angela Chan Fatima Djoumer Guillaume Esmiol TABITHA JACKSON Kjersti Mo Gaia Tridente I would have pulled quotes from everyone, but then I would have just copy & pasted the whole report on this post.
The anticipated 11th Nostradamus Report is here! This year's report is titled Paradox of Hope, written by industry analyst Johanna Koljonen. Paradox of Hope explores the striking contradictions shaping trends in the audiovisual sector, where experiences of decline and growth, threat and opportunity, fear and hope coexist. Read the report here: https://lnkd.in/dpcTveru The report was presented at Marché du Film - Festival de Cannes. The report analyzes and forecasts the near future of the faster-than-ever evolving audiovisual industries through research, and interviews with industry experts. Every time it seems that external circumstances are pulling the emergency brake on the development of Ukrainian cinema, Ukrainian artists, against all odds, find the strength and means to keep moving the train forward. Neither COVID-19 nor the large-scale war has stopped Ukrainian art, whose "time has come." This was once again demonstrated by the 15th Odesa International Film Festival which became not just a significant film event, but a declaration, a symbol of our people's resilience and perseverance. The executive producer of SPACE Production, Kateryna Laskari noted that this year at the Odesa International Film Festival, the significance of the Ukrainian retrospective in the festival program was particularly striking. In her opinion, this indicates that we all have a demand not only for the development of contemporary cinema but also for active self-identification through art: "An absolute blossoming of love for domestic cinema and the study of its history! One might think that Oleksandr Dovzhenko, Kira Muratova, and Serhiy Parajanov would be thrilled. It is very painful that our process of identification and its sharp activation are partly due to the terrible war that consumes so many of our best people, including film artists. This harsh reality is depriving our cinematic tradition of many talented and promising individuals right before our eyes. At the same time, it forces us to value every story, every frame created today by our filmmakers, filled with pain, love, and a desire for a better future." No matter how difficult each new day is, Space Production gladly welcomes all events that indicate this movement and continues uninterrupted filming both in Ukraine and abroad. #SPACEproduction #filmproduction
