The plant came into operations last week. 🌬 Ventos de São Zacarias is a complex of wind power projects with an installed capacity of 456 megawatts, built in the states of Piauí and Pernambuco. Swiss renewable energy company Axpo Group is partnering with Australian #renewable #hydrogen company Infinite Green Energy (IGE) on the Valle Peligna Hydrogen Project in Abruzzo, Italy. The project includes a 30 MW #electrolyser, powered by a 45 MWp #solar plant, making it one of the largest hydrogen plants in #Italy.   The two companies have entered into a Joint Development Agreement (JDA) that outlines their strategic partnership, the advanced design, and investment in the plant. This facility aims to contribute to the #decarbonization of industry in the Corfinio municipality. It will supply #greenhydrogen to customers in both the industrial and #transportation sectors. The facility will also provide green #electricity to the local grid by the second half of 2025.   The Valle Peligna Hydrogen Project’s 30 MW electrolyser will be able to produce up to 4,200 tonnes of hydrogen annually. Since IGE launched the project 18 months ago, local authorities have named the area ‘Hydrogen Valley’.   IGE is already in discussion with hydrogen truck manufacturers regarding the fuel’s transportation applications. The Valle Peligna project will see an initial offtake by Etex, one of Europe’s leading suppliers of gypsum products. The delivery of green electricity to power the production lines in its factories will also help the manufacturer achieve its goal of replacing the use of natural gas with hydrogen. Overall, IGE estimates an annual CO₂ emissions saving from the project of around 67,000 tonnes a year, including those from hard-to-abate industries.

*PROJECT UPDATE: Hunter Valley Hydrogen Hub, NSW* Origin Energy and Orica’s renewables-based hydrogen production facility, the Hunter Valley Hydrogen Hub on Kooragang Island in Newcastle, has been approved by the state planning authority.   The project involves production of hydrogen from recycled water and grid connected electricity, supported by the surrender of large-scale renewable certificates, to power a 55 MW electrolyser producing up to 5500 tonnes of renewable hydrogen each year.   The aim is to eventually develop new renewable generation assets or enter into long-term PPAs with NSW renewable energy developers to secure the energy required for the project.   According to Origin “all energy supplied for the operation of the hub would be certified as renewable from these PPAs or from Origin’s LGC portfolio, resulting in produced hydrogen from the hub having a small net carbon footprint”.   Most of the hydrogen will be used at Orica’s ammonia and ammonium nitrate facility to help make their products emission-free.   Hydrogen will also be made available for refuelling hydrogen buses and trucks at the hub.   The project aims to establish a pathway to export renewable hydrogen and provide more job opportunities in the region by expanding workforce skills and creating a new industry around renewable hydrogen.   Construction of the facility is targeted to begin in 2025 with operations expected to commence in 2026. #renewablehydrogen
