From Odfjell Oceanwind press release this morning: The leading Japanese renewable energy company, ENEOS Renewable Energy (ERE) becomes a partner in the GoliatVIND project with a 20% interest, by acquiring a 20% shareholding in the project from Odfjell Oceanwind. With an aim of establishing renewable energy as Japan’s main source of power to achieve the country’s 2050 carbon neutral goal, ERE is the renewable arm of the Japanese energy giant ENEOS Holdings, Inc (formerly JXTG Holdings, Inc.). ERE develops diversified renewable energy sources, including solar, onshore and offshore wind, biomass, and hydropower. The new partnership on GoliatVIND is Source Galileo Norge (40%), Odfjell Oceanwind (20%), Kansai Electric Power (20%) and ERE (20%). Insteresting study on renewable energy transportation with a simple and clear summary. Still hydrogene is the way forward, but clearly energy transportation cost is a heavy element of the financials.
Summarizing a couple of previous posts to explain the importance of transport and storage in a renewable energy system. 1) Renewable Energy Heat Maps show the need for large scale energy transport from surplus to shortage areas, to cover energy demand all around the world. 2) Hydrogen transport is 5 to 10 times cheaper than electricity transport. 3) Due to fluctuations in both renewable energy supply ánd energy demand, there is especially a need for large scale and seasonal energy storage. 4) Hydrogen can be stored in the underground in large volumes and at least a factor 100 cheaper than electricity. 5) In a renewable energy system, we roughly estimate transport and storage costs to be up to 50% of total cost. 6) If we do not take transport and storage costs properly into account, we will make big mistakes and wrong choices, leading to higher costs and delays in the energy transition. Electricity generation ⚡ ⚡ from fossil energy dropped to the lowest level ever in Q2 2024, which means measures taken with REPower EU plan are having effect. More than 55% of all power generation in the EU was generated by renewable energy. The growth of renewable energy ☀ 🌪 production lead to negative prices for the first time in Spain and Portugal in 2024. The Netherlands will break its record of negative prices probably already this week with almost 300 hours of negative prices already this year.

Ukraine will hold pilot green auctions to attract investors to renewable generation. The Cabinet of Ministers instructed the Ministry of Energy to ensure the organization and conduct of a green auction pilot program to attract investors to renewable generation. "The government has adopted a document implementing the practice of pilot auctions for the distribution of support quotas for RES producers. It concerns solar, wind, biogas, and micro and small hydroelectric power plants. According to Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, these auctions will allow potential investors to receive guaranteed support, accelerating the implementation of projects in the field of renewable energy. The Cabinet of Ministers also established an additional annual quota for 2024, the schedule of auctions for the distribution of the support quota, and the maximum price offer for auction participants. Pilot auctions for the distribution of support quotas will be held in October and November. The first electricity facilities that are expected to be installed as a result of these auctions are anticipated to start generating electricity in 2025. https://lnkd.in/diN5TiT7
