🧂 🩺 Prevention and control of iodine deficiency in the World Health Organization European Region The #WHO and Iodine Global Network (IGN) have just released a critical report highlighting the vital role of iodized salt in preventing iodine deficiency. Despite changing dietary trends and lifestyles, salt iodization remains the keystone strategy for ensuring adequate iodine intake in Europe. Adults and pregnant women in countries with voluntary or no salt iodization are particularly at risk. Variation in national salt iodization regulations and inadequate monitoring are stalling progress in optimizing iodine intake. Regular surveillance and updated data are essential for sustained progress. Dr. Werner Schultink, IGN Executive Director, adds, “Even mild iodine deficiency has a major impact on population health and the economy.” Ensuring the use of iodized salt in all food products is a simple yet effective measure to safeguard our health. #EUsalt is committed to supporting initiatives that promote the importance of salt iodization. Learn more about the causes, consequences, and solutions to this ongoing issue in the latest WHO & IGN report 👉 https://lnkd.in/dqYpnNPc #WHA2024 #SaltIodization #IodineDeficiency

WHY GO PLANT-BASED? See more reasons here 👉 https://lnkd.in/gDRPRPQp Reason #1 Diets containing animal products can be harmful to your health. Founder - Lantern Alliance | My Nutrition Clinic | Bond University | 2020 GC Women of the Year - Wellness
As the number 1 “immediate priority” listed in the Royal Commission into the Quality of Aged Care’s Final Report 3.5 years ago, I am surprised we only see a brief paragraph around aged care food and nutrition in the Inspector General’s 166 page report release this week (link to full report in comments below). Why has it taken such a back seat? In the background, and completely off the back of providers who “get it” and are striving for excellence, we have been showing the impact of delivering on this “immediate priority”. Pre-dating, during and following the RC, The Lantern Alliance - The Lantern Project has been sharing demonstrated evidence of the systemic impact food and nutrition has on resident quality of life, clinical measures such as falls, PI’s, unplanned wt loss and hospital readmissions and on the bottom line to decision-makers. We know that food is the barometer the community use to judge the quality of care in an aged care home. Supporting evidence-based, demonstrated measures in this space are needed - we remain here poised and waiting to assist speeding progress in this space along.
