What is Planning? Planning as a profession contains multitudes, and as a #PathwaysToPlanning Graduate Planner, you are able to encounter many of them and find out what interests you the most. Some of the other exciting areas of the field include: Validation: Logging planning applications and ensuring they are completed properly. Geospatial Information Systems ('GIS'): A type of mapping software which can give planners a map or spatial representation of what developments will look like, and therefore their impact on how a place or community will look and function. Enforcement: Enforcement, compliance and monitoring are all terms for the team that addresses developments that breach, have not followed, or do not have planning permission (unauthorised development). Planning Officers who work in this area have the authority to require developments to be demolished and rebuilt if necessary. Specialist Services: The specialist areas covered by a local council depend on what kind of landscapes exist in the area. Typical specialist services include archaeology, heritage, urban design, ecology, transport, climate change, minerals and waste, and environmental health matters. Applications are open now for Cohort 3, find out more and apply here: https://lnkd.in/e-fBRQGt. #LocalGov #GraduateOpportunities #Planning

We urgently need more skilled tradespeople for both traditional (Grey) and Natural infrastructure projects. This is a significant issue in #Canada, #USA, and many Western countries, impacting #engineering, #realestate, and other sectors. A new report by the International Institute for Sustainable Development highlights the growing need for professional capacity in skilled trades for natural infrastructure projects. While focus don the Canadian Prairies its not unique to this region... As demand for natural infrastructure rises, it’s crucial to build more professional capacity. Successful projects rely on a diverse range of professionals and skilled tradespeople, including #engineers, #planners, #landscapearchitects, #biologists, #agrologists, and #horticulturalists. Professional associations are key to the future of the natural infrastructure sector. Without targeted capacity building, grey infrastructure will remain the default option. Let’s invest in our future and support the growth of natural infrastructure! 🌱 Read the report here: https://lnkd.in/gyTmCAfd Kalpna Solanki, MBA | Alex Passini #SustainableDevelopment #SkilledTrades #Infrastructure #GreenBuilding #ProfessionalGrowth #YouthInTrades #FutureOfWork #SustainableCareers #NaturalInfrastructure

Earlier today, I was at Morayo Estate to set out the entrance road and the gate house. Some professionals were waiting for us before they could do anything and this shows clearly that the roles of surveyors in our daily activities can't be over emphasized. It's ubiquitous and the bedrock of all meaningful and sustainable development. Providing precise measurements and spatial data that are crucial for making informed decisions about land use, infrastructure development, and resource allocation is one of the roles of a surveyor. It's therefore imperative to engage a professional surveyor before embarking on any project.

💧 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗲𝘅𝗮𝘀’ ‘𝗖𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗝𝗲𝘄𝗲𝗹𝘀’: 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗛𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 💎 On Monday, the West Travis County Public Utility Agency (WTCPUA) unanimously approved a plan to move forward with a new water service line for the Mirasol Springs development, located just west of Hamilton Pool (pictured below!). This new water line is designed to prevent groundwater depletion near the region’s iconic springs, often referred to as the “crown jewels” of Texas. Here’s what’s happening: 📜 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗗𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘀: 💧 𝟯𝟰𝟳 𝗟𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘁 𝗘𝗾𝘂𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 (𝗟𝗨𝗘𝘀): Each unit equals 450 gallons of water daily, all sourced exclusively from WTCPUA. 🚫 𝗡𝗼 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗗𝗿𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴: Developers are prohibited from drilling new wells, with strict inspections ensuring compliance. ♻️ 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗪𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗧𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: All wastewater must be treated to drinkable standards with strict nitrogen and phosphorus limits. 🌧️ 𝗥𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗛𝗮𝗿𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: Mandatory systems will reduce strain on natural water sources. 📣 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘆’𝗿𝗲 𝗦𝗮𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴: “𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦’𝘴 𝘣𝘰𝘵𝘩 𝘨𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘴𝘰 𝘨𝘰𝘰𝘥. 𝘉𝘶𝘵 𝘸𝘦’𝘳𝘦 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘨𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘴,” said landowner Lew Adams, whose property neighbors the development. 🏗️ 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗜𝘁 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀: This plan sets a precedent for how development can thrive while protecting natural resources. By reducing reliance on the Trinity Aquifer and Pedernales River, Mirasol Springs is creating a blueprint for sustainable growth in Texas. 💡 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲? How I Found My Passion for Surveying After secondary school, I had a dream of becoming an engineer, but I wasn’t quite sure of the path to take or even when to start. One seemingly ordinary day, an opportunity arose that would change everything. I accompanied someone on field work. On that site, a surveyor was present, and he did something that left me completely fascinated—he described the layout of the entire land without having physically visited it before. His explanation was precise and vivid, based entirely on the data he had analyzed. That moment sparked a deep curiosity in me. How could someone know so much about a place without being there? I began asking questions, researching, and learning more about the field of surveying. With every new discovery, I realized just how much more surveying entailed—geometry, precision, technology, and an ability to connect the physical world with data in ways I had never imagined. Inspired and driven, I decided to take action. I quickly switched my course of study to surveying, and I haven’t looked back since. Over time, my appreciation for this profession has only deepened. Surveying is not just about mapping land; it’s about understanding and shaping the world for sustainability. That decision has defined my career and opened doors to endless opportunities. Sometimes, all it takes is one moment of inspiration to lead you to your true calling. The picture is iconic 🙂 - 2 Niger bridge, A second order control and tide gauge How did you discover your career path?
