Firms can boost women's representation in male-dominated functions by implementing mentorship programs, fostering inclusive workplace cultures, offering flexible work arrangements, setting diversity targets, and providing leadership development opportunities. They can also encourage sponsorship from senior leaders and promote gender diversity in recruitment practices. #GenderEquality #WomenInLeadership #DiversityAndInclusion #WorkplaceEquity
Firms across India Inc are employing all-women teams across functions like manufacturing, sales, logistics, and customer service, Brinda Sarkar and Sreeradha Basu report for The Economic Times. L&T have an all-women team for the maintenance of large-sized machines at its client Tata Steel’s Odisha plant, the report says. Amazon has nine all-women delivery stations at places like Chennai, Thrissur, and Surat, among others. Dr Reddy’s too has a team of only women at one of its formulation centres in Himachal Pradesh. Dr Saundarya Rajesh, founder and President of diversity, equity and inclusion consulting firm Avtar Group, says that women-only teams help address gender gap challenges in sectors where women are underrepresented in the workforce. All-women assembly lines are common in manufacturing and allied industries, she adds. These firms provide local accommodation to women, especially since manufacturing plants are often in remote areas, the report says further. Boosting women's representation in traditionally male-dominated functions requires a multifaceted approach that addresses systemic barriers and cultural norms within organizations. Here are the top five strategies: 1. Commitment from Leadership: Senior leadership must demonstrate a clear commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). It should be embedded in the organization's values and communicated consistently. 2. Establish Clear Goals and Metrics: Set specific and measurable goals for increasing women's representation in traditionally male-dominated functions. Track and report progress against these goals to hold the organization accountable. Avtar and US-based Seramount’s annual gender analytics exercise, Best Companies for Women in India or BCWI, assesses several parameters, evaluating policies and practices. 3. Review Recruitment and Hiring Practices: Do you attract a diverse pool of candidates? Implement blind resume screening to mitigate non-conscious bias for fair evaluation. 4. Provide Equal Opportunities for Development and Pay Equity: Offer training, mentorship, and sponsorship programs to support women in advancing their careers within the organization. The 2023 BCWI Study indicates that all the Top-10 Best Companies offered these programs for women talent. To address pay equity, organizations must conduct regular pay equity audits to identify and rectify any gender pay gaps. 5. Create a Supportive Work Environment: Foster an inclusive culture where women feel valued, respected, and supported. These include implementing policies that promote work-life balance, flexible working arrangements, and zero tolerance for discrimination or harassment. As per the BCWI study findings, the Top-10 have zero tolerance for harassment and offer remote work and flexibility to tap diverse talent. #GenderDiversity #DEI #WomeninWorkforce #Diversity #Equity #Inclusion

Let progress pave the way, for women to lead the day. #SheMeansBusiness This is a fantastic step towards a more balanced future! Here's how firms can further boost women in traditionally male-dominated roles: Shatter the Stereotypes: #ChallengeTheNorm Promote STEM education for girls, highlight successful women in these fields, and address unconscious bias in hiring practices. Invest in Training & Support: #UpskillingWomen Offer skills training programs specifically for women, provide mentorship opportunities, and create a supportive network within the company. Flexible Work Options: #WorkLifeBalance Offer flexible work arrangements like part-time work, childcare support, and parental leave policies that benefit both genders. Equal Pay & Recognition: #EqualOpportunity Ensure fair compensation and promotions based on merit, not gender. Celebrate the achievements of all employees, especially women who are breaking barriers. By implementing these steps alongside initiatives like all-women teams, companies can create a truly inclusive work environment where women can thrive in any role they choose. #WomenCanDoItAll #linkedinnewsindia

"Candidate's Half Salary Trap - A Thought on Current Unethical Hiring Practices." Recently, I casually explored the job market at TRICITY (Chandigarh, Mohali & Panchkula/Zirakpur), and had an interesting experience while visiting THREE BIG AND RENOWN COMPANIES. ~ In the FIRST COMPANY, the HR asked insightful questions about my work experience—what I had accomplished and the skills I could contribute. ~ The SECOND COMPANY focused on my qualifications, which is fairly standard. ~ However, at the THIRD BIG COMPANY, the HR asked the first question, "WHO SENT YOU?" This question raised some concerns for me. It made me reflect on certain trends in hiring nowadays, particularly how some larger companies may be collaborating with local consultants, even after having a dedicated recruitment team. These consultants reportedly charge from candidates a half portion of their salaries and, in some cases, share a commissions with internal HR teams as well. It's disheartening to see practices that prioritize profit over people. This experience reinforced my belief in the need for more transparency and fairness in recruitment processes. #What_Do_You_Think? #Pradeep_Sangwan #JobSearch #Job #Hiring #Jobs #Unethical #HR #Practice #Tricity #HiringPractices #JobMarketInsights #RecruitmentTransparency #Chandigarh #Mohali #Panchkula #Zirakpur
