NEW: President Biden and USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack just announced more than $7.3 billion in clean energy funding for rural electric cooperatives, which have been delivering electricity to rural and underserved communities for almost a century. Here's why that matters: These 16 co-ops will build more than 10 gigawatts of clean energy for rural communities across the country, and reduce and avoid at least 43.7 million tons of greenhouse gases annually. But even more, this is an investment in rural American, for rural America—which will create jobs, cut pollution, provide cheap clean energy, and enhance the reliability of our nation's energy grid. https://lnkd.in/ek_GFnrn

We are thrilled to see this economic and environmental investment by the Biden Administration in rural communities! Rural communities are a critical part of meeting our sustainability goals and connecting our clean energy corridors to move commercial freight transportation across our country. "Rural communities, with their small populations and isolation from larger electrical systems, grapple with unique energy challenges. These include high electric bills, high fuel costs, and unreliable energy supplies — or lack of access to electricity altogether. At the same time, rural communities have untapped potential for generating clean energy." Clean Energy Now is committed to ensuring rural communities are catapulted to have affordable, secure, and clean energy independence. Let's goooo!! ⚡️☀️🚀 #cleanenergy #ruralcommunities #affordableenergy #sustainability https://lnkd.in/gkeS6Hrx

The $7.3 billion New ERA program for rural electric cooperatives supports President Biden’s Justice40 initiative by ensuring 40% of benefits reach disadvantaged communities, reducing greenhouse gases, and advancing clean energy in underserved areas. It will create over 4,500 permanent jobs, 16,000 construction jobs, and deliver cleaner, more resilient electricity to 5 million rural households, promoting economic growth and environmental justice. This investment is crucial for improving grid reliability and preventing future crises, like the 2021 Texas ice storm that caused power outages and soaring electricity bills that many hardworking Texans could not pay . By enhancing clean energy infrastructure and implementing grid upgrades nationwide, the New ERA program will lower energy costs, strengthen resilience against extreme weather, and ensure that rural communities are better equipped to handle future energy demands.
