Did You Know? Before its transformation into the Empire Arts Center, it was first called the New Grand. The New Grand stood as the first theatre in Grand Forks designed specifically for showing motion pictures. Currently, the Empire is the city's last surviving downtown movie house! Are less elaborate shows and fewer productions/exhibitions the new normal? • "Summer theater: Trying to make more out of less”: It’s been five years since audiences for summer theater have had as much available to them as they do this season, but an overview of the schedules for six companies in the Capital Region and Berkshires shows an overall trend toward fewer productions and smaller casts. https://lnkd.in/eTuFXm_h • “Live Performance Theatre Industry Analysis, Trends and Forecast”: Shows with elaborate productions have been shown to be less and less profitable for producers. Consumer preferences have favored shows with simple sets and powerful stories instead of over-the-top, costly shows, leaving many expensive productions unable to recoup. https://lnkd.in/eUVPqz9R • “Welcome to the slow museum, where less is more”: While the Covid-19 pandemic sparked a culture-wide reckoning with the frantic pace of contemporary life, some museums began to pull their foot off the gas even before the world went into lockdown. https://lnkd.in/enqgV3SV #SweibelArts #Trendwatching #LessIsMore

Director, playwright & Applied Theatre Facilitator passionate about theatre for change. Addressing Diversity, Inclusion, Homophobia, Domestic Abuse and County Lines.
In our productions the actors on stage become a mirror reflecting the human experience and the stories unfolding can often be the awakening of something dormant within ourselves. "Theatre can make us believe, not just in something 'out there', but predominantly in something 'in there', inside of each and every one of us." Theatre has always been more than just a performance; it's a communion of souls, a shared exploration of the human condition. As the characters come to life, you will not be merely spectators, but active participants in the unfolding drama. Through their triumphs and tribulations, joys and sorrows, we catch glimpses of our own struggles and victories mirrored in their stories. Each performance is a mirror held up to our own lives, inviting us to confront our fears, embrace our vulnerabilities, and celebrate our strengths. In the hushed moments of revelation, we find echoes of our own innermost thoughts, fears, and desires reverberating through the theatre walls. For in the sacred space between the stage and the audience lies the power to believe—not just in something 'out there', but predominantly in something 'in there', inside each and every one of us. #TheatreLife #ActorsLife #StageReflections #TheatreMagic #EmbraceVulnerability #CelebratingStrengths #TheatreInspiringChange

Today, we had the privilege of conducting a Theatre Fire Marshal Course at the historic His Majesty's Theatre. As we reflect on the vital role of fire safety, it's fitting to remember two significant events in the theatre's history that underscore the importance of our training. 🔥 His Majesty’s Theatre has a storied past, the site has been associated with a playhouse longer than any other theatre in London, except for the Theatre Royal Drury Lane. Throughout its history, the theatre has seen four different buildings and numerous name changes. The original building was destroyed by fire in 1789. It was rebuilt and became the largest theatre in England. However, on December 6, 1867, the theatre suffered another devastating fire, which destroyed the venue in less than an hour. The blaze was ferocious and swift, reducing the grand structure to a hollow shell of stone outer walls. The interior, made largely of wood and filled with flammable materials such as stage sets, costumes, and seating, was rapidly consumed by the flames. These tragic events not only destroyed a beloved cultural institution but also highlighted the urgent need for advancements in fire safety and prevention. At RB Health and Safety Solutions, we offer Theatre Fire Training courses, Fire Risk Assessments, and Fire Door Inspections. We aim to ensure that everyone is better prepared and equipped to prevent and respond to fires, so that the events of the past don't repeat themselves. #FireSafety #HisMajestysTheatre #History #FireMarshalCourse #SafetyFirst #LondonTheatre #TheatreHistory #FirePrevention #RBHSS #healthandsafety #healthandsafetytraining #theatre #theatretraining #theatrelife
