Throughout history, humanity has unfolded like a grand tapestry, woven from countless threads of experience. At Every Black Life Matters, we acknowledge a fundamental truth: we are all one race—the human race—with inherent rights that transcend any arbitrary categorization. Within this singular race flourishes a dazzling array of cultures and ethnicities, each adding its unique color and texture to the magnificent human fabric. Looking Beyond Appearances: The Beauty of Cultural Diversity Skin color, often mistakenly used as the sole measure of race, tells a far less intricate story. Within a single ethnicity, a kaleidoscope of cultures thrives. Consider an African American of Ghanaian heritage. Their life growing up in the dynamic heart of an inner-city community will be vastly different from that of another African American with the same heritage raised in the more homogeneous environment of Sunnyvale, California. We all mean well. However, certain facts cannot be ignored. You know I love harmony but these are the times where we cannot live in a bubble that may cause some rubble. Whether we are Black, White, or of other races, we all need to make sure we take no race’s history for granted. It is our social responsibility for us all to consider what it took to build America. Regardless of what we see right now, countries gained achievements off the sweat of slaves, before and after slavery ended. As we celebrate Black History Month or I will say come to the end of Black History Month, I challenge everyone to embrace the races that are around them and define the word race as well as consider the value race plays. Another school of thought to consider is where the word race originated. I remember years ago learning in an anthropology class that the first man was born in Africa. Let us all be humble by remembering the origin of race. Did the word race originate to have free labor? Did the word race originate to distinguish escaped slaves because it was hard to find indentured servants? Remember that all blood bleeds red and ideologies originated from somewhere. Therefore, let us start considering individuals’ thought patterns that derive from their decision-making process. Did our thought patterns form from culture, racism, or mistreatment? Outside of danger, let us not be quick to judge but to respect. Let us not take for granted the work that others have done to help us arrive at a sustainable position; let us not take for granted the sweat equity others did for us to be where we are today. Now let us consider the disparities created by disrespecting people because of their race. Thanks for joining me in seeking processes to be socially responsible by considering ways to minimize racial discrimination and by trying to view life through the lens of others.
