🤝 On Wednesday, January 17, 2024, the annual in-person meeting of the LEAPfROG consortium took place at Amsterdam UMC. It was great to witness the participation of numerous (potential) end-users. During the meeting, we delved into our progress, engaging in productive interactions aimed at aiding us in the development of AI-based models for drug-induced kidney disease (DIKD) in people with chronic kidney disease (CKD). The primary topics of discussion included: 1️⃣ The FAIRification of (meta)data from Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems of general practitioners and hospitals. 2️⃣ Enhancing the computer-interpretability of domain knowledge related to adverse drug events. 3️⃣ Creating a multi-source overview of drugs with potential to cause acute kidney injury. 4️⃣ Addressing the information needs of hospital physicians regarding the detection and prevention of DIKD. Leading this multi- and cross-disciplinary project is truly inspiring! Adovate was named as a recipient of a Virginia Catalyst grant award. This grant is to fund the Phase 2 human studies in asthma patients of our lead compound, ADO-5030.  Thank you to our collaborators and world-leading researchers Dr. Larry Borish at the University of Virginia, and Dr. Liwu Li at Virginia Tech. We are excited to continue our work with them on this important program to develop an effective treatment for the 30-50% of asthma patients that are unresponsive to steroids, the current first-line therapy, as well as being a potential treatment for all asthma patients. Kudos to National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) for organizing an exciting #rarediseaseday2024 that featured many inspiring stories from patients, researchers, and clinicians. Our founder, Dr. Anne Chiaramello, Deputy Clinical Director Dr. Andrea Gropman and Deputy Scientific Director Dr. Martine Uittenbogaard attended; and all three walked away with real information that will be useful in NCATS funded clinical trial for two rare mitochondrial diseases. We will be sharing more insights soon, including a fascinating pictorial of the convoluted, and often frustrating, rare disease patient journey, presented by Dr. Kimberly Moran, PhD, MBA. Dr. Dominique Pichard's talk on #NCATS mission encapsulated the progress thus far accomplished for rare diseases by creating a seamless interface among patient advocacy groups, researchers, and clinicians to improve diagnosis and augmenting the number of treatments in the #drugdevelopment. Do data from clinical trials translate into real world evidence? An overwhelming YES from the ELEVATE pivotal study which once again shows the transformative benefit of chronic LVAD support in Advanced Heart Failure - A median survival in excess of 5 years, a tripling in 6 minute walk distance and near doubling in QOL achieved. Adding life to years and not just years to life. The findings are also echoed by the recent INTERMACS real world analysis (Ann Thorac Surg. 2023 Nov 8:S0003-4975(23)01155-4.). 🎉 New Publication Alert from ASPIRE PMRIAD! 🎉 We're excited to share our team's groundbreaking findings on HHT1, published in Traffic (https://lnkd.in/dN6tA736). The study sheds light on how specific endoglin mutants retained in the endoplasmic reticulum can worsen the condition of hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia type 1 by negatively impacting the wild-type allele. 🔬 Key Discoveries: - Identification of how specific endoglin mutants impair the normal function of the wild-type protein. - Insights into the disease mechanism of HHT1, offering new avenues for therapeutic strategies. These findings not only deepen the understanding of HHT1 but also set the stage for future research in precision medicine.
