A new topic is here on TEKnically Speaking this week! What is RAG? Well, it's definitely easier to say than Retrieval-Augmented Generation. In short, this week's topic relates to large language models and bringing their data up-to-date. But Mark and Ned will explain it better than we can. Some exciting updates from the Prolific team this month! * Big increases to available representative sample sizes with new quotas. * Introducing advanced detection system for texts generated by large language models (LLM) as part of our continued efforts to guarantee the authenticity of our human data * Early access to verified domain expert participants: Access an enriched pool of participants/taskers with verifiable skills - in coding, and writing and speaking multiple languages. Need to collect data from people with verified specific skill? Let us know the criteria to get early access to verified experts!
Say hello to expanded representative sample sizes, enhanced LLM-text detection verification, and the introduction of verified domain expert participants on Prolific! What's New? 📈 Expanded Representative Sample Sizes: We've doubled our pool sizes for UK and US political rep samples, allowing for quicker, more comprehensive studies. 🤖 LLM-Text Detection Verification: Our new detection approach ensures the authenticity of our human data by rigorously checking for LLM-generated texts. 🧠 Verified Experts: Soon, you'll have access to a pool of research participants with verifiable expert skills, from coding to multilingual communication. Whether you're conducting studies focused on the UK or US political landscapes or in need of participants with specialized skills, our latest features ensure that your research is both expansive and representative. Check out Reveal Ask, a program coming soon that will be built right into the search bar and allows you to ask natural language queries about your case. For example, who was the CEO of Enron? What questions should I ask Andy Fastow of the LJM Corporation? Can you give me that answer in Mandarin? Learn more at https://lnkd.in/gYE-S9uu #allinonai #ediscovery #revealreview #reveal11

This study uses a corpus linguistic approach, combining qualitative and quantitative methods, to analyze epistemic modal lexical verbs (EMLVs) in six of George W. Bush's speeches from September 11, 2001, to December 16, 2004. The speeches total 24,209 words with 308 instances of EMLVs. Using AntConc software, the research identifies how Bush used EMLVs to persuade and justify actions. Nine primary functions of EMLVs are identified in State of the Union speeches, and eight in other speeches, with Assertion being the most frequent function. The study highlights the significant role of EMLVs in political discourse for motivating, advancing agendas, and garnering support.

Trustworthy AI, agency, causality and software engineering of hybrid neuro-symbolic AI systems; social, distributed and cooperative AI.
Levels of abstraction matter. So does modularisation.
Today we remember Niklaus Wirth, who recently passed away. Born on this day in 1934, Wirth received the 1984 #ACMTuringAward for developing a sequence of innovative #computerlanguages, EULER, ALGOL-W, MODULA and #PASCAL. PASCAL has become pedagogically significant and has provided a foundation for future computer language, systems, and architectural research. Watch Wirth discuss the importance of abstraction to language design: https://bit.ly/40X6djN
