For #PhilanthropyThursday we want to highlight Kids First Chicago 🏫 Kids First Chicago helps families understand education and policy data so that they can navigate to and advocate for high-quality public schools for their children and communities. They do this through direct services that include one-on-one support, informational events, leadership development opportunities, and community-based convenings and presentations. Their policy priorities align with issues identified by parent leaders in their network; their analysis of publicly available data related to education, census, and life outcomes; and strategic opportunities presented to K1C where parents are invited to the decision-making table on an emerging topic or issue of significance to education in Chicago. They aim to create a system where every kid defies gravity—a system that ensures equitable access to quality schools, funding, and transparent information in all communities. https://lnkd.in/ekqxgVSB

Joining an organization of Jamaican educators in Miami was a pivotal moment in my career. Almost every educator I was surrounded by had a doctorate. I was struck by a profound realization—the immense power and influence of role models who reflected my own heritage and experiences. They spoke like me, shared my struggles, and had risen to heights that once seemed unreachable. In their presence, the once distant dream of becoming 'Doctor' morphed into a tangible, achievable reality. This transformation in my own perception highlights a significant gap in many educational settings: the lack of diverse role models. Research strongly supports the importance of students of color, Black students particularly, having role models who look like them, especially in educational settings. When students can't see themselves in their leaders, their scope of what's possible narrows. School leaders, what is one way you cultivate an environment where every student and teacher sees a clear pathway to their fullest potential within your school community? 🎯Get more insights in our complimentary 'Inclusivity' Checklist. 🔗https://bit.ly/42q2UD8

You might want to start having discussions with K-12 leaders now before key decisions have been made. This week, my friend, Andrea P. Miller, Ed.S. is giving a quick webinar regarding STATE EDUCATION ACCOUNTABILITY SYSTEMS and why it might be a good idea for you to understand them before you engage with school or district leadership. This isn't something you want to miss.

February isn’t just Black History month. February is typically the time when schools/districts start discussing budget allocations. Budgets determine resources (both human and capital). Resources determine the school’s capacity. And that capacity is used to meet student needs. If student needs are greater than the capacity can accommodate, there is a gap. And that gap is often filled by partners. Do you work with K-12 schools by providing STEM programming and resources? Do you manage corporate social responsibility efforts that fund STEM initiatives? You might want to start having discussions with K-12 leaders now before key decisions have been made. At All Means All, we are dedicated to transforming outcomes for students with disabilities and other intersectional identities that have been historically marginalized. We start by partnering with school leaders to thoroughly analyze and disaggregate historical data and then build inclusive and ambitious goals to address disparities. Leaders develop plans through our multiple learning cycles that draw on adult leadership skills and practical tools to target specific areas of disproportionality such as reading, math, post-secondary success, or social-emotional growth. This creates a proof point, demonstrating what is possible and generating momentum to continue eliminating disparities beyond the program. Join us for our fourth cohort as we work toward more inclusive, supportive learning environments where all students can thrive academically and socially. 🌟 Apply Here: https://lnkd.in/gQhAz_25 🌟 📈 Check Out Our Results: https://lnkd.in/gSZQGq3R 📊

Civic leadership? Community engagement in higher education? Does it really matter? Civic leadership is core to the quality, purpose and relevance of global higher education. A foundation standard of Australian universities is a commitment to demonstrating: 👉strong civic leadership, 👉engaging with local and regional communities, and 👉commitment to social responsibility. Australian University Colleges, likewise, are expected to demonstrate civic leadership in the fields of education they offer. Why does civic leadership and engagement matter? 👉The powerful reciprocal benefits of connecting teaching-research-civic leadership are compelling. 👉Creativity and innovation are fostered in new places of connection. 👉Civic leadership bolsters university relevance and social license, increasing our chances of connecting with community, new knowledge discovery and improving educational opportunities and success for all. #CommunityEngagement #CivicLeadership #InclusiveLeadership #CoDesign #HigherEducationLeadership #SocialResponsibility Engagement Australia CIVIS - Europe's Civic University Alliance School of Civic and Economic Thought and Leadership at Arizona State University UPP Foundation American Council on Education
