Kudos to the Govt team at OSD I&M and OECIF for setting up and executing a great acquisition process. This was a fair and fast competition that resulted in a meaningful contract outside of the SBIR program. Ending with a live in-person pitch to determine final selection proved very effective as it allowed Radiant to showcase their true technical chops to Govt SMEs in real time. As Ai LLMs continue to promulgate, I think it'd be smart for Govt Acquirers to do more in-person evaluations like this. It will help uncover what is vaporware / pretty slide decks from the companies with the capability to actually deliver valuable solutions. #InvestedintheMission #Radiant #Nuclear Decisive Point
Congratulations Radiant! This is just another example of what modern teaming can look like, and is a proven BD path for companies to consider. For those of you familiar with "Stone Soup" 🍽 , it worked like this: - OSD Innovation & Modernization set up the cooking pot, through our Innovation Outreach colliders that finds companies outside DoD's normal sightline and connects them with the right DoD partners - OSD Operational Energy Innovation Office brought their unmet tech needs and funding, and added it to the pot - USINDOPACOM brought their operational perspective on real-world ops, informing both government investment and industry development, adding to the pot - Decisive Point referred one of their portfolio companies to our Solutions Meeting, adding to the pot - Start-up Radiant brought an innovative dual-use tech that resonated with the priorities of the funding sponsor and the end user, adding to the pot - MITRE brought top-notch tech review and business operations to ensure a seamless pitch day, adding to the pot The result is critical mass of the multiple DoD stakeholders necessary to get to a "yes", but are often difficult to all track down and corral in time and space. Want to be part of our next event? Message me to be added to our mailing list. Or if your prefer a challenge, watch SAM.gov for Special Notices of our "Needs Statements". 🤣 https://lnkd.in/erx4vpym

⚡ How could Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) transform Belgium's energy landscape? Denis Dumont, Chief Global Nuclear Officer, participated in a roundtable discussion organised by KPMG Belgium on the potential role of SMRs in the Belgian energy mix. ⚛ It brought together representatives from the Belgian industry and the nuclear sector. They discussed industry expectations and the solutions SMR could bring. "If we start today, the first SMR could be operational in Belgium by 2035," says Denis in the video featuring Rudy Provoost, Voka Oost-Vlaanderen, Peter Claes, Febeliec and Renaud Crassous, NUWARD which summarizes the debate. From inception to commissioning, it takes 9 to 12 years, including 3.5 to 5 years to build an SMR. 📗 During the event, KPMG published a report that explores how SMRs can provide net-zero & reliable energy in Belgium to: ☑ complement intermittent renewables, ☑ produce hydrogen, ☑ and provide electricity and heat to decarbonise the hard-to-abate sectors (e.g.; heavy industry and long-distance transport). 🔗 Link to report in the first comment #EngineeringaCarbonNeutralFuture #nuclearenergy #renewables #carbonneutrality #netzero #innovation #smr https://lnkd.in/e9RESGVM

On 19 June, nucleareurope Policy Director Andrei Goicea presented nuclear perspectives for 2050 in a keynote speech at a World Energy Council FOREN conference session on the role of nuclear energy in Central and Eastern Europe. He highlighted the current contribution of the nuclear sector to the European economy, and stressed that the objective set by the Nuclear Alliance of reaching 150GW of installed nuclear capacity in the EU by 2050 is attainable. “At the European level, we are seeing positive developments in the sector, with the recent launch of the European Industrial Alliance on SMRs supported by nucleareurope, for example, but it is essential that the policy framework evolves to treat nuclear energy on an equal footing with other net-zero technologies” said Andrei, adding that it was essential that policy makers adopt technology neutral decarbonisation objectives for the EU. 🇧🇪 Belgium faces significant challenges in its energy transition due to ambituous climate targets, a difficult geopolitical context, and the closure of most of the nuclear power plants. 🏭 In the same time, the industry is striving for climate neutrality and requires high amounts of decarbonised energy. 💡 #SMR come up as a potential solution for sustainable, reliable and affordable energy production. After a roundtable organised by KPMG Belgium, about the role SMRs could play in the Belgian mix, this aftermovie will give you key insights from industry experts on this topic: 📌 What are the challenges of the Belgian industry to decarbonise? 📌 What could be a realistic timeline for the deployment of SMRs in Belgium? 📌 What could support the development of SMRs in Belgium? Many thanks to Magali Vercammen and KPMG Belgium for the rountable and the video. This week, Sympower, a Koolen Industries group company, highlighted the crucial role of demand response programs in preserving grid stability across Europe. Here are 5 times demand response saved the day: 🇸🇪 Sweden, April 2023: During a major outage in Stockholm, Sympower’s swift deployment of 200MW of flexibility helped prevent a blackout, showcasing the importance of rapid response capabilities. 🇫🇮 Finland, November 2023: An unexpected shutdown at Europe’s largest nuclear reactor was mitigated by activating 100MW of flexibility, demonstrating the effectiveness of the Frequency Containment Reserves. 🇫🇷 France, 2021: A sudden shortage in electricity supply was managed by mobilizing industrial consumers to reduce their energy use, highlighting the growing reliance on demand response measures. 🇩🇪 Germany, 2019: Severe heat waves spiked electricity demand; demand response programs were crucial in managing the load and preventing grid overloads. 🇮🇪 Ireland, 2018: A drop in wind power generation was offset by demand response participants, ensuring grid stability despite the renewable energy shortfall. Did we miss something? Share your experiences in the comments about times when demand response helped prevent blackouts and protected the power grid! #CleanEnergy #DemandResponse #EnergyTransition
