💡 How to reconcile hospitality, openness with a written museum's visit policy and safety standards? ➡ How to explicitly incorporate certain essential points (which ones?) while avoiding creating a list of "do nots"? ➡ What are the essential and regulatory points to express explicitly, while avoiding a series of injunctions and "do nots"? ➡ How to deconstruct a list of presupposed prohibitions internalized, especially by those furthest from the culture (expected attitudes...)? How to explain the reasons behind certain prohibitions rather than imposing them? 🌐 Do you know of successfull examples of museums that have worked on this issue, whether in terms of signage within the museum, visit policies or welcome guidebook ? 🙏 Share your inspiring examples! #MuseumInnovation #CulturalHospitality #inclusivemuseum La Lucarne Mêtis MuseumNext ICOM FRANCE Anne-Sophie Marchal Anne Sophie Grassin Annie Bicknell Lieko Lelong Lucie Marinier Terry Scott Anne Fay Frederic Bigo

Do you think museum shops are just places to "buy stuff" on the way out? Think again! As one of the few companies surveying the entirety of the guest experience within visitor-serving organizations, we often pick up insights related to museum retail experiences in the course of our research. And what we see is that museum retail stores can impact perceptions of cultural organizations' unique reputations and singular experiences in nuanced and powerful ways. Today on KYOB+ we're exploring perceptions of museum retail through three different lenses: why people go into stores, what makes for a satisfactory retail experience, and what the best thing about the experience was. Have you ever been on a museum tour and just felt overwhelmed with all the information being presented? The Nieuwe Institute in Rotterdam has come up with an intriguing solution that reimages the museum tour. They have transformed their traditional tours into more engaging experiences through the use of what they call "Detour Guides". These guides, often creatives such as DJs, graphic designers, architects, storytellers, and performers, are empowered to share their unique perspectives with museum visitors. We love how this concept is redefining the way information about the museum is presented, bringing in different experiences and perspectives. #NewVisitors #VisitorExperience #TrendsInMuseums #EngagingAudiences #TheNetherlands #therevelsoffice #cultureisacatalyst #culture #culturalorganisations #galleries #businesschallenges #audiences #strategy #partnerships #transformassets #newrevenuestreams #visitorattraction #experiencestrategy #revitaliseartts #collaborate

Museums and galleries are magical portals to history, culture, and imagination. But as we bring these experiences online, are we including everyone? We still have a long way to go with accessibility for Blind visitors. Did you know that 64% of museum homepages have missing alt text and 88% of museum social media accounts rely on basic AI-generated descriptions? Missing these steps in workflows hinders inclusive access to our rich history and art. Check out my most recent article on Robert Weisberg's Museum Human to learn about the best next steps museums can take to build a legacy of accessible media for Blind patrons, from conducting audits to securing executive support and hiring expert consultants. We have everything we need to make museums the inclusive and welcoming spaces they were always meant to be. Let's build a digital legacy of inclusive access and break down barriers to history, art, and culture once and for all.
