About us
Culture Action Europe aisbl (CAE) is the major European network of cultural networks, organisations, artists, activists, academics & policy-makers. CAE is the first port of call for informed opinion and debate about arts and cultural policy in the EU. As the only inter-sectoral network, we bring together all sectors in culture: from performing arts, literature, visual arts, design and cross-arts initiatives to community centres and activist groups. Culture Action Europe believes in the the value and values of culture and its contribution to the development of sustainable and inclusive societies. We believe in the value and values of culture. We believe that it contributes to the development of sustainable and inclusive societies. We believe that culture is a practice rather than a resource. We believe that cultural gain is fundamentally social and collective, and culture is a common good We believe in a plural voice that includes the enormous potential of a community that acts collectively. We believe exploratory culture is a space in which to create shared values. We believe that culture must be put at the heart of the public debate and decision-making.

We’re joined by Glenn Micallef, European Commissioner for Intergenerational Fairness, Youth, Culture & Sport who is delving into the strategic ambition of the #CultureCompass. Since his swearing-in , we’ve been following the updates on the Compass. https://lnkd.in/gxX6aEBc Today we get a closer look. 🗣️ “We need to take care of the cultural sector and its working conditions. We need to see the opportunities and challenges of emerging technological development and AI. We also need to see culture as a catalyst and an enabler in different policy areas. A Cultural Deal for Europe requires funding. We have to have a united front. I will advocate for the increased funding. This is just the initial conversation.” - Glenn Micallef (European Commissioner for Intergenerational Fairness, Youth, Culture & Sport) #CultureCompass #CDEU2025 Europa Nostra, European Cultural Foundation, Bozar

Yesterday, we shared our paper advocating for allocating 2% of the next MFF to culture. (You can find it here: https://ow.ly/xZPy50UTnlp) CAE’s Policy Adviser, Luiza Moroz, listens for her panel’s response to our call to action. 🗣️ “Culture is a key pillar of European Identity. In the next MFF there should be fewer programmes and more investment, especially in culture. We need to rethink our priorities and our realisation of Creative Europe and other fragmented programmes. We need to have a flagship cultural program in the next MFF!” - MEP Hélder Sousa-Silva (Member of the BUDG Committee, EPP) → Follow live: https://ow.ly/oyQf50UTnlo #CultureCompass #CDEU2025 Europa Nostra, European Cultural Foundation, Bozar

Last year, CAE’s European Parliament-funded project, “Pop the Vote: Culture on the Ballot,” used the backdrop of the 2024 elections to support the important work of 44 Changemakers across Europe: these young artists and cultural workers engaged the power of artivism to drive civic participation. One Changemaker, dancer and choreographer, Leander Kämpf alongside poet and multidisciplinary artist Sam Alekksandra created, “Democratic Body: Let Your Move Be Resistance,” which speaks to the realities of young people’s disenchantment with democratic processes. Today they join us to discuss the piece and their vision on how artists can be better supported. 🗣️ “Without imagination how can we imagine a better future together?” - Sam Alekksandra (poet and multidisciplinary artist) 🗣️ “We can’t do this work for free. If I didn’t need to focus on funding, I could spend so much time creating and working with young people and in my community where it’s needed.” - Leander Kämpf (dancer and choreographer) See a short clip below. #CultureCompass #CDEU2025 Europa Nostra, European Cultural Foundation, Bozar

“Remember that culture is the soft power, it speaks more than words, more than everything. Remember that we can create through culture a perception without any force or battle, we can create narrative through culture. I’d like to say something to our Georgian, Ukrainian, Serbian friends. We were fighting for our democracy and I can tell you it’s worth it. We will fight with you here in the European Union.” - Marta Cienkowska (Deputy Minister of Culture and National Heritage in Poland) #CultureCompass #CDEU2025 Europa Nostra, European Cultural Foundation, Bozar
