All good things must come to an end for new ones to begin. This Friday is my last day at Wood after 27 years. I’ve decided to retire to pursue more time with family, friends, travel, and too many other interest to list them all here.
What an incredible run it’s been from Mustang Engineering/Wood Group Mustang/Wood Group and Wood. The pipeline business was only a few years old and 8 people when I joined in February, 1997. Mustang was still in one building and barely 600 people. As a team of great people with a singular focus to be the best in the business, we grew to over 2,000 people in the pipeline business (now Onshore Midstream) and executed some of the biggest projects in the US and abroad. I helped support Dow projects for all 27 years, worked on Enbridge projects as a PM while transitioning to a BD role, won our first work with Lyondell’s Equistar pipeline business that led to 20 years of great projects, landed the first Shell EFA contract in 2012 that led to a long term “Shell Program”, the Ecopetrol Transporte contract and our first major pipeline projects outside the US, worked on the acquisition of a pipeline engineering business in Calgary and worked with teams that executed the largest pipeline projects in the US (KM Midcon, ET DAPL, Rover, Mariner East & West, FEP, the list goes on an on. I’m leaving on a high note as we just secured the 700 mile Moss Lake DeLa project which will take flared gas from the Permian and deliver it to Louisiana for LNG transport across the globe. What a positive environmental impact the project will have.
As I think about what the biggest thing that has impacted my time at Wood, it’s the people. I love when I’m talking with clients the answer has always been, “we can help with that” and know it’s in good hands. I was fortunate to work for 3 people who believed in me, made me accountable, pushed my personal limits and built incredible teams by putting people first above all else and rewarded performance. I always loved Richard Branson’s quote; “Clients do not come first. Employees come first. If you take care of your employees, they will take care of the clients.”
All the best!
