On May 27 we joined our partner Bayan for a Summit in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. The event celebrated 50 years of the impact of the SAT: Sistema de Aprendizaje Tutorial (Tutorial Learning System) program, in Honduras and the region. We had the opportunity to share experiences with government authorities, civil society, academics, and the educational community, with the participation of friends from Colombia, Guatemala, Nicaragua, the United States, and more. Special thanks to the Inter-American Foundation and UNICEF for supporting this event.

New journal article is out. It is titled "The National Coordination of Forcibly Contracted Teachers (NCFCT) as a social movement in Morocco: educators’ unionism and social justice activism". This is the first article to conceptualize and discuss the National Coordination of Forcibly Contracted Teachers (NCFCT) ‘التنسيقية الوطنية للأساتذة الذين فرض عليهم التعاقد’ as a social justice movement that goes beyond the demands for better employment benefits and educational justice through schools that communities deserve to resisting philosophies that make use of their ‘relegated’ status as an example of injustices and hierarchies in Morocco. The Day of the African Child 16th June 2024: “Education for All Children in Africa: The Time is Now” The commemoration of the African Child not only reminds us of the legacy of courage and sacrifice left by the young souls who stood up for their rights in Soweto (SA) in 1976. It also reminds us that education is a fundamental right for every child globally, not a privilege. Education for all is not a distant dream but a promise we must fulfill today. Our children deserve a quality education that empowers them, transcends language barriers, and prepares them for the future. Let us break down the walls that limit access and build bridges of knowledge. Let's collaboratively ignite curiosity and shape young minds for a sustainable shared future. This includes creating inclusive learning environments where no child is left behind, prioritizing lifelong learning, and equipping our children with the skills they need to thrive and achieve their full potential by investing effectively in education systems. As we celebrate our interconnectedness and shared humanity in the African spirit of Ubuntu, let us remember that educating one child uplifts an entire community. Let us join hands, hearts, and minds to ensure that every child's potential blossoms. Together, let's create a future with education that knows no boundaries, where dreams take flight, and where every child's voice echoes across our vast universe. This future empowers every child with the chance to learn, grow, and contribute their unique light to our continent in unity, equity, and pursuit of an inclusive and holistic livelihood. Let us celebrate the brilliance of Africa's children, but let us not ignore the challenges. There are still many who lack access to basic education today. Siyabonga! Asante! mbuyamono! ashei oleng! thank you! #DayOfTheAfricanChild #Ubuntu #EducationForAll #EmpoweringAfrica #InclusiveDevelopment

My experience working with over 50 Iraqi Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) over the past two years has solidified my belief that they are uniquely positioned to serve their communities better than international organizations. One example is PEER organization, whose impactful work, including their recent report has shown the vital role CSOs play in understanding and analyzing the issues faced by communities and building a stronger, more resilient Iraq. #localisation #iom_iraq
We're proud to share our latest achievement! 🎉 Our new report from the 'Resilient Nineveh' program, Peer Organization for Youth Development in partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM Iraq ),Wasl Civil Society Fund, sheds light on the challenges returnees in Nineveh face with educational integration, while also highlighting the progress made. Despite the difficulties, most children have rebuilt their friendships and interact well with their peers. However, additional support is still needed to further enhance their social and academic skills. Check out the full report and share your thoughts with us!

June 16 Today we honor the memory of those who fought for the rights of African children and to advocate for better education opportunities for all. The Day of the African Child has its roots in the Soweto Uprising that took place on June 16, 1976, in South Africa. The Soweto Uprising became a turning point in the fight against apartheid and brought significant attention to the struggles faced by African children in accessing quality education as well as the need to address systemic inequalities in the education system. Today's theme, “Education for all Children in Africa: The Time is Now,” echoes the urgency to ensure every child has access to learning opportunities. As we strive to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4) - quality education for all, let's honor the past, advocate for the present, and pave the way for a brighter educational future across the continent. Let’s ensure children have access to their right to education and support them with any means. #becoming

#ThisDayInHistory June 16 June 16th of every year is the International Day of the African Child. It is being observed in memory of those killed during the Soweto uprising in South Africa. The day also raises awareness of the ongoing need to improve education for children in Africa. The Day of the African Child has been celebrated every year since June 16 1991 when it was first initiated by the defunct Organisation of African Unity (OAU). The Soweto uprising which inspired the day happened on June 16 1976 when about ten thousand black school children marched in a column more than half a mile long, protesting the poor quality of their education and demanding their right to be taught in their own language. Hundreds of the young students were shot and killed in the protests that lasted for two weeks, and more than a thousand were injured. On June 16 every year, governments, NGOs, international organisations and other stakeholders gather to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing the full realization of the rights of children in Africa. The 2024 theme for the Day of the African Child is: “Education for All Children in Africa: The Time is Now.” With deadlines to reach global and African education commitments fast approaching, African governments should focus on guaranteeing access to quality free education and remove legal, policy, and practice barriers that continue to deny an education to millions of children, especially girls, Human Rights Watch said.
