In the world of wholesale, connections go beyond business—they’re about shared stories and the love of good food. For Eri, Miki, and Anne, food has always been a centerpiece, a way to share love from family to community. 💛 Though they’ve worked together from opposite coasts, they’re finally meeting face-to-face in Nevada City, California.
Watch as they celebrate their shared passion and bring a bit of home to each other ⤵
I love it when someone comes into the shop and they're like, you have so many things that I grew up eating that I thought I could never find around here. It's interesting to see what people do with our condiments. It's almost like a canvas that other people use and be creative. My name is Erie Basin, Brooklyn. My name is Nikki Facing Tokyo. We're cofounders of Cabbie. Japan has so much great food, technique wise, people wise, flavor wise. We wanted to start a brand that bridges Japan in the US. My name is Anne and I'm the owner of Winnie Superette, the boutique Asian market in Nevada City, CA. My parents are always cooking, always pushing us to eat. It's like their form of nurturing. They've taken it for granted living in cities, how accessible the Asian food was. Until I moved up here. There was definitely a need for Asian groceries beyond what you could find in the ethnic aisle, the nostalgic staple items and brands like Cabbie. I never thought they would come to this tiny little town. Instantly we started talking about calling me like what we cook. I love hearing the story behind the brand that focus on artisanal ingredients and made with so much care. Thinking about connecting not just Cabbie but the local producers in Japan to Nevada City makes us proud. I love people being surprised by something that they never would have tried. I hope it's just opened up their world. It's a little bit.

Irish retailers should promote their national credentials and sell “the feeling of being Irish” to boost their chances of success, according to retail expert Mary Portas.
“A really powerful place to start is the feeling you want to sell to the world, the country feeling; the product and everything else will come from that,” Portas said.
The former creative director of Harvey Nichols, and presenter of the noughties-era BBC TV show Mary Queen of Shops, was speaking in the RDS in Dublin to mark the 50th anniversary of Showcase Ireland.
