*FREE WEBINAR!* ⬇️ December is shaping up to be the perfect time to upgrade your language assessment knowledge! Yesterday we recommended the Studies in Language Testing series. Today, we're excited about this BAAL TEASIG 2024 webinar on Item Generation and AI! There's no getting away from AI in language teaching, but what about in assessment? Is there a role for it in test development? And if so, how can we play to its strengths (while still acknowledging that human assessment expertise and know-know is irreplaceable?) Should be a very thought-provoking session - we're looking forward to it! #artificialintelligence #AI #ELT #languagetesting #cpd #lal #AI #languageassessment #TEASIG #BAAL

AI is likely to take more space in our lives over the coming years and I certainly benefit from it in my life. The capacity of humans to process on multiple levels and with access to our emotions, mostly subconsciously (how amazing is that?!) still gives us the edge. "Indeed, Meta’s chief AI scientist, Yann LeCun, and other AI luminaries have argued that because gen AI is trained only on text (albeit vast amounts of it), which is a measly subset of the data that human beings are able to draw on — such as our DNA encoding, sensory and embodied experiences of the world, emotions, etc. — we can’t expect it to make much headway with the complex, wicked problems we face." Happy New Year! 🥂🎊 https://lnkd.in/ea8PQSRD

Today Seashell invested in my professional and personal development! I had a fantastic time at Pannone Corporate LLP with Richard Whittle discussing the various uses of Generative AI. His insights into the future of the space and how AI can be integrated with behavioural science for better outcomes were truly fascinating. It was a unique session that highlighted the crucial role of AI in today's rapidly evolving tech landscape. And to top it off, I wrote this post with AI! #GenerativeAI #AIandBehavioralScience #TechTrends #PannoneCorporateLLP

How will AI change what we know and understand about the world? This was the question our Founder and Chairman David Siegel was charged with when he was invited to speak at the celebration for Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (HAI)'s five-year anniversary. With thought leaders and experts tackling some of the most pressing issues in the age of AI, the day explored how we can ensure AI technology is developed with humans at the center. Watch David's discussion with Professor Fei-Fei Li, where they delve into topics such as reasoning versus prediction, the long-term impact of AI on scientific research and departmental structures, and the interdisciplinary nature of AI. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/d5u9fY6y

Excited to share our latest research study on the metacognitive capabilities of Generative AI compared to human metacognition. Our study compared the performance of five advanced LLMs with human participants on an ICF-mimicking exam. The results reveal that LLMs outperformed humans across all metacognitive metrics, particularly in reducing overconfidence. However, both LLMs and humans exhibited less adaptability in ambiguous scenarios. This study sheds light on the potential for Generative AI to engage in human-like metacognitive processing, without conscious awareness. Read the full study here: https://bit.ly/3WBt1WK.
