Did you know that more than 50% of our members are homeless when they first arrive at WAYS for Life? Those who aren’t homeless are often in unstable, temporary housing arrangements. Many have fled their families or state systems of care due to abuse and/or neglect. At WAYS, we do whatever it takes to help these youth overcome challenges with housing, legal issues, employment, education, transportation, health care, wellness, and counseling. We understand that until immediate basic needs like housing are met, it’s nearly impossible to focus on the future. That’s why WAYS is committed to creating transitional housing options to help our members stabilize their living situations while they work to become self-sustaining. With a safe, secure place to live, they can focus on rebuilding their lives and achieving their goals. WAYS currently serves over 400 young adults in Brevard (ages 15-25), along with over 190 of their dependent children. Please join us by supporting WAYS' Raise the Roof Gala Fundraiser on February 22nd to help us make this vision a reality! All funds raised will be used to support efforts to improve housing opportunities and provide life-changing wraparound services. Together, we can help young people in our community access the opportunities they deserve for a successful future. Reserve your spot by sponsoring today, helping to end youth homelessness in Brevard! https://lnkd.in/g7ZPpv38 #RaiseTheRoof #WAYSForLife #TransitionalHousing #SupportLocalYouth #GalaFundraiser#FlavorByChefKenya #SpaceCoastEvents #supportlocal

How and why does Sported create social impacts for young people through community groups delivering sport and physical activity? We’ve today launched our Theory of Change, an animated illustration of just how Sported underpins these organisations, helping young people to thrive. Driven by external insights that explore our formula to make a huge difference as a charity, our new video shows: - Why sport matters to young people and why it is vital that we help them overcome barriers to participation, in tandem with surmounting the obstacles that they face within society. - How grassroots clubs and groups increase young people’s participation in sport as well as using it as an impactful conduit to transform lives. - Sported’s approach to helping these organisations- and their leaders - to become more effective and sustainable, and to positively address numerous social issues. Watch the video 👇 - and come talk to us about it.

As the Chair of a Foundation, I understand the fear many non-profits are experiencing with the funding cuts led by the current administration and its supporters and the fear they are imposing on small donors that used to support social and environmental justice causes. That's why it is so important to manage our emotions and not let them determine our future actions. We have to stay strategic, thinking systemically and in the long term. Rebecca Fishman Lipsey shared this advice at the last Forum on Philanthropy hosted by Morgan Stanley 2 weeks after the Presidential election last year, and I share her vision. We have a mission to accomplish, and getting funds (at any cost) would not keep us relevant or impactful. Actually, it might do some unintended harm. This is a time to build meaningful alliances with donors who are willing to fight with us on the long-term systemic issues we are facing and build resilience and sustainability -together- as large social movements.
Sometimes it's better to walk away. This one is for the fundraisers out there - you're doing SUCH important work mobilizing people to invest in causes that matter. 3 questions I like to ask myself when entering into a relationship with a funding partner... things I wish I had thought about earlier in my career. ↳What is the cost to me? ↳Are we vision and values-aligned? ↳Is this what I need most or will it divert my attention? In a world where sometimes we celebrate MORE MORE MORE, sometimes it's actually wiser to focus on the RIGHT partnerships first.

This article has some great tips, and I think one of the best points is where it talks about collaborating with other donors! Human connection creates value, and giving with others should make it more effective (and probably more fun!).

‘Do it now!’ 💪 January reflections ⏱️ Since snapping this beautiful clock in Edinburgh earlier this month it has been both a source of inspiration and dread. Depending on the day, the task, my mood; ‘seizing the day’ or ‘doing the thing’ isn’t always that easy and that’s ok! 🍩 I prefer the mantra coined by a hero of mine, the great filmmaker David Lynch 🖤 ‘Keep your eye on the donut, not the hole.’ To me it’s always been a reminder to focus on what is important and what you can tangibly do/change/create, not what is outside of your control. ⭐️ In partnership working, the ‘do it now’ moment is often that initial spark, conversation, idea. But to make meaningful stuff happen takes time, planning and patience. This month I’ve had some brilliant chats about 'making things happen' with some incredible people Emma Edwards, Esteem Charity, Fabia Bates, The Clock Tower Sanctuary, Brighton, Sherri at West Sussex County Council Young Carers Service, Jem at Amaze Sussex Jess Estcourt, Community Works. I’m super excited to turn those chats into actions with Pendragon Project Youth Impact 💥 At Pendragon Project we’ve started the year with a bang. Running some great team events for wonderful clients. As a facilitator, it’s a real privilege to be trusted with the job of empowering and engaging the whole team. Not everyone turns up ready to ‘do it now!’ and I totally get this. The majority of teams may not know what the activity is until it starts 🤣 💚 I love the process of understanding the client brief, tailoring our experiences and then creating the right environment on the day, so people feel excited to take on whatever we throw at them. We want everyone to go from ‘do it now’ to ‘let’s do it again!’ What does ‘do it now’ mean to you? - - - - - - - - - 👉 Pendragon Project to learn more about our award-winning team adventures 👉 Pendragon Project Youth Impact for social impact #doitnow #teambuilding #youthimpact #socialenterprise #partnership
