The arc team at KUTV 2News / KMYU made my first live interview such a fun experience. What a great team they have! Farmers Markets and Food Pantries are such great places to get healthy foods, but you never know what is going to be available. Here are some additional tips for making the most out of those experiences: - Go to the market/pantry first and make a menu based off what you you find - Use MyPlate as a guide to make a general menu but decide the specifics when you get to the market/pantry (example: put ‘side of roasted vegetables’ on the menu and then wait until the market to decide which veggies you’re roasting) - Be flexible- if they don’t have the ingredient you were hoping for think about what you could switch it out for. - Ask questions- talk to the Farmer, talk to the pantry workers and get their ideas on how to use the available healthy foods in your menu The perfect recipe for these markets and pantries is: creativity + flexibility with a dash of curiosity :) Enjoy the last bit of the Farmers market season!

Today's Burgundy 🇫🇷 is "a faithful management". Following a lengthy post-harvest rainfall, Burgundy has enjoyed a stretch of fine weather, allowing producers to gradually complete their vinification and prepare for the season’s results. Early on, spring frosts, hail, and disease forecasted a challenging year. While little can be done against frost and hail, producers who managed timely responses to disease threats were able to preserve their yields. The most challenging issues, powdery and downy mildew, require preemptive control since, once they take hold, it becomes nearly impossible to keep up. This necessitates a deep mastery of each vineyard plot’s unique climate and conditions, with attentive monitoring and precise timing for intervention within a manageable area. The art lies in initiating treatment at the perfect moment, just before the onset of disease. In difficult years, there is no escaping the fact that such meticulous work is directly reflected in the final results. However, in the next critical step, the winemaking process, these losses are mitigated, yielding wines in 2024 that, despite lower volumes, promise remarkable quality. Sitting down to a steak dinner or a burger in #Wyoming, you’d probably assume you’re eating Wyoming beef. Think again. While visiting with the Wyoming Stock Growers Assn the #foodsystems dots began to connect. Sure, Wyoming beef can command top dollar at restaurants in New York and Tokyo. But public food consumption trends of the 90s-10s also demanded “lean” hamburger — meaning it requires leaner beef inputs from Brazil and Argentina. Here’s a great article from #Montana on the Old Salt Co-op — different state, but similar forces at work. Local sourcing is a key driver of a healthy and resilient food system — and sourcing is just the start. With the #FoodFreedomAct, Wyoming enabled intrastate sale of meat and game processed at state processors, decreasing the bottleneck of USDA processing facilities. Then, onto building the systems and markets for consumption…

This is very important. Our fresh food producers are at a tipping point.
Former citrus grower of 35 years, Judy Shepherd wants Australians to know that if we don’t do something now, we will lose our fresh food producers. Judy says it’s time for everyone to step up to ensure growers are getting paid what they deserve so they can keep growing food for Australians.
