The young researcher award organized by Fraunhofer IOF honors theses that deal with #innovative optical technologies. ❓ Who can apply? In recent years, it has been demonstrated the success of optical tweezers in isolating and manipulating individual optical nanoparticles. In this study, researchers introduce the most relevant results in the field of optical trapping of individual optical nanoparticles. Bibliographic research is conducted to identify the main families of optical nanoparticles in which optical trapping has been demonstrated. Finally, researchers share their critical opinion about the future of the field, identifying the challenges ahead. Engaged in a unique PhD programme, Matteo will split his time between hands-on industry experience at Siemens and academic research at imec, benefiting from the mentorship of Dr Gwendal Jouan and Bart Vandevelde. Matteo's PhD research develops a sophisticated mathematical model, or 'digital twin', that can predict when electronic systems will need repair or replacement. He is doing this by simulating how these systems age over time, using real-world data to ensure accuracy, identifying key components that signal potential failure, and optimising the model for real-time application within the electronic systems themselves. In my research group, at the Pozzuoli divsion of the National Instite for Optics, a 1 year position renewable for another year is open to physicists and engineers possessing a phd and with experience in the field of optics. The research activity is about the generation of squeezed light via cascade second order optical nonlinear processes, in order to establish new sources of radiation with quantum mechanical features such as squeezing and entanglement.
