As January 1, 2024 approaches, our feeds are filling up with either “new year, new you” sort of articles telling us how to transform ourselves, or perhaps that we can and must leap tall buildings in a single bound. On the other side, there are exhortations not to make resolutions because—who keeps them anyway? This made me wonder what resolutions we each made for 2023 that we actually kept. I’m curious about you. I’ll go first: I don’t generally make those resolutions because the new year timing seems artificial. However, I did resolve and did keep my 2023 resolution to launch (finally!) a live online course based on my book #intentioning: Sex, Power, Pandemics, and How Women Will Take the Lead for (Everyone’s) Good. It was a small beta but I learned a lot from doing it that will enhance the value for participants when I offer it again. Next?

On 21st February we will be organizing a webinar looking at methods to address bias (e.g., based on race, sex, socio-economic status, and so on) in real-world datasets (RWD). The presentation will summarize an analysis of different methods to evaluate and mitigate bias in RWD, and some recommendations on which ones work and when they work. Bias mitigation using synthetic data generation works quite well for low to medium bias. In cases of extreme bias there are not methods that work consistently. You can see the results at the webinar.

For males a similar window was in evidence at ages 14 and 15... ...the sex difference in timing suggested that early increases in sensitivity to social media might be due to maturational processes such as puberty, which occur earlier in females compared to males. 3dNo way! I was searching for this exact tool just days ago, I'm glad it exists. I learned my salary sits about average for those of my age and ethnicity, but it was pretty bleak to compare that with American Indian wages.
