❔❔Did You Know....❔❔ Our donations are made possible because of the food rescue programs larger organizations like Midwest Food Bank manage so that we can feed our community. 🌿 Donated items come in the form of: Close-dated items: Products that are close to their expiration date and don't have enough time to reach store shelves. Overruns: Extra products made beyond what was forecasted, often cheaper to keep the production line running. Mislabeled items: Products with packaging errors, like missing ingredients or allergen information. Relabeling is too costly, but we have the volunteer resources to repack and relabel these items. Damaged or discontinued goods: Items with damaged packaging or products that are no longer sold in stores. -Midwest Food Bank: How Midwest Food Bank and Our Partners Fight Food Waste Together You can donate too! In our 2023 Annual Report, we take a look at trends at FISH over the past few years, particularly comparing pre-pandemic numbers to today. What we are seeing is continued growth in need, as the high cost of living paired with fewer support resources adds more and more strain for families. One area in which we have seen considerable increases is the pounds of food we distribute each year. In 2023, FISH distributed 1,560,603 pounds of food, more than any other year in our history as an organization. Our marketplace could not run without the generous support of our community. We source food from four main sources: donations from our Broomfield grocery stores and restaurant partners, Community Food Share, in-kind donations from our neighbors (which includes food drives!), and purchased food made possible by our incredible donors and by grant funding. All of these support networks allow us to stock a variety of food and personal care items for our families so they can shop for what their families need. I rescue healthy food from growers, manufactures and shippers to give to people who would otherwise go to bed hungry. I also run Zilch, a new program, the vision is to feed more and waste less.
Second Harvest Inland Northwest has been living sustainably for over 50 years. A core part of our work, getting food to people facing hunger is the rescue of food that may otherwise go to waste. Today we have a program called Grocery Rescue that matches neighborhood foodbanks with grocery stores, we rescued 12.5 million pounds of food in 2023. We also work with many food producers to get donations. Our total food distribution in 2023 was over 35 million pounds and most of that was rescued and donated. As we enter 2024 our sustainability efforts and commitment to feeding people facing hunger continues. In fact, we are leaning in even more aggressively to get the most out of our operations with Zilch – an effort to waste less and feed more. Since the beginning of the year, we have added 19 new organizations that we are helping. There are lots of ways for the business community to be a part of this effort through sponsorship and volunteering. #sustainability #Zilch #helpingeachother

Paying it forward
Wakefern Food Corp. has always been equal parts heart ❤️ and ambition. So, with the close of the successful 2024 Wakefern Showcase, we were proud to partner with the Community FoodBank of New Jersey and donate nearly four trucks of fresh foods and groceries from the Showcase supermarket displays. These donated items will help as many as 20,000 families in our region. Thanks to all the team members who volunteered to pack and load – and to the CFBNJ for their ongoing commitment and creativity in the fight against hunger.

In 2023, 8.8 million Californians experienced food insecurity. This means that nearly 1 in every 4 individuals are unsure where their next meal will come from. Every year, lawyers across the state come together to try to provide critical funds to local food banks. So please join us in donating to your local food bank. If you don't have one, please consider donating to our firm's local food bank. Contra Costa County often receives far less resources than San Francisco and Alameda. But Contra Costa County has areas of significant need, including Richmond, Concord, and Pittsburg. https://lnkd.in/gYviBwzJ

No one should have to choose between feeding their families and other basic necessities. Organizations such as those gathered at the Capitol today fulfill a vital role in our community: ensuring that all people have access to fresh, healthy food. Thanks to their tireless efforts, we can work towards a Wisconsin where no one goes hungry. Ensuring that everyone has the ability to feed their families should be a top priority in our state. That is why it is essential that we provide food pantries and other food service organizations with the necessary resources to carry out their essential mission. As demand for their services increases, so should our support of their efforts. The time is now to act in alignment with our values. It is not enough to say that all people deserve to have food on the table – we need to ensure that food makes it there. That is why I am proud to stand beside each and every one of these vital organizations and uplift their call for additional funding and resources so they can continue to serve our communities. Only by working together can we create a more fair and equitable Wisconsin where everyone has what they need to grow and thrive.
This morning, a coalition of more than 30 Dane County food pantries, including WayForward, released a letter to the community, sounding an alarm about the rising demand for assistance and the need for both immediate community support and longer-term solutions to fill the gap. Please read and share this message with your networks! Thank you to United Way of Dane County and Wisconsin State Journal for co-sponsoring this full-page message in today's edition of the newspaper.
