It's hard to believe that five years have already passed from the first round of #AWIA Risk and Resilience Assessments (RRA) and Emergency Response Plans (ERP). Compliance deadlines start on March 31, 2025, for Group 1 and continue through December 30, 2026. This should be a wakeup call for all levels of government across the country to take dam safety seriously. America's aging infrastructure isn't limited to roadways and bridges. Many dams built during the "golden age" of dam construction in the 50's and 60's, to say nothing of those that have passed their centennial like Rapidan Dam, have seen little to no rehabilitative work in the intervening decades and it's showing. With extreme weather events becoming more and more common, this may be a scene we see repeated at dams across the country in the years to come. Blue Earth County was lucky that there was no loss of life resulting from this partial dam failure, but, the next time a dam fails, we, being the dam safety community of the United States, may not be so lucky. While dam safety and rehabilitation may not be as obvious a funding priority, it is no less critical than other areas of public safety. #damsafety #waterresources #publicsafety #floodcontrol

FEMA Data Visualizations - Hazard mitigation assistance obligations This is a really neat tool that allows you to see how hazard mitigation funding is being distributed across the USA. You can filter down by the state/unincorporated territory as well as the project type.
