If you’re asking why black women need their own professional development conference, let me put it into perspective. Black Women only make up 7.4% of the US population. 77% are in administration roles and less than 2% are in VP or C-Suite roles. Additionally black employees only make $0.63 to the dollar and the median income is $50K.. Whereas the majority represents 35% of the US population and make up 57% of VP or C-Suite roles. (McKinsey study and summarized by the Ivy Kusinga) The insurance industry makes up $843.6 billion (as of 2022). Our industry has the authority and ability to DISRUPT and embrace diverse and equitable opportunities. WE belong in all spaces where decisions are made. This conference was filled with sessions on how we take our superpowers and turn them into professional competitiveness. Be a compass and identify your passions and strengths (and even weaknesses) ➡️ turn them into bold moves (fight your fears) ➡️ Build intentional relationships and find your alliances/sponsors/mentors ➡️ Self-care is fuel ➡️ be a walking ROI and leave a legacy to lift others up And get this! All 200 of us walked a sisterhood second line through the streets of New Orleans representing insurance. I’ve never seen so many wide eyes asking what we do! Thank you to The Hartford for being an event sponsor yet again. I’m taking all these valuable lessons and experiences to pour into myself AND others. If you see a new Krista Scott in 2024, it’s because I attended this conference 🤗 🗣️‼️‼️This post got a lot of attention! So I need to give the flowers upon flowers to my sister Ngozi Nnaji for her vision in making this happen. And a LOUD round of applause to the ladies that executed an enormous ask Sherita Hardy LaShon Harris Krystal Lugg Sylvia K. Alston Tisa Rabun-Marshall, MBA Helaina Jolly! Well done ladies! #iwork4thehartford #gamechanger #takingaction #watchout #impact #levelupyourcareer #IAmChargedUp

As Black History Month transitions into International Women's Day, this video from Don Peebles as he receives the Business Icon Award at The Grio Award, highlights the shared challenge both groups face in access to capital. "The fuel to run the motors of business is capital. Now, let me give you an illuminating fact. Today, there is over 82 Trillion dollars invested in venture capital and private equity. Of that 82 trillion dollars less than 1.3% of it is invested in firms run or owned by women or people of color. Combined. What that means is 98.7% of venture capital money, 81 trillion dollars out of 82 trillion dollars is provided to white men. Yet, white men represent only 31% of America's population. Women represent 51% of Americans, we Black Americans are 13% of Americans. Thus, you have 64% of the population receiving less than 1.3% of the investment capital." ~ Don Peebles Link to video in the comments. These numbers are not unique to the US. Less than 2% of VC funding globally is invested in female founded businesses. Less than 2%! In 2024, Growing the 2% Club is committed to amplify and advocating for female founders seeking the investment and liquidity to grow their businesses. If you are a fund manager in the position to invest in a fabulous female founded business, 🎯 Write the check. If you are a family office looking to make a true impact, 🎯 Seek out female founded businesses that are ready to scale. If you feel your business is already making an effort in this space, 🎯 Do more. If you are a purchasing department, of large corporations purchasing from female founded businesses, 🎯 understand the reality of the 2% Club and find ways to accelerate or adapt the payment terms with your purchase. Please feel free to highlight people doing hero's work in this space. #blackhistorymonth #internationalwomensday #Grow2PercentClub
