Aviation and its constant competition. In addition to optimizing revenue, airlines are challenged with Sustainability. Airlines are tirelessly working towards adopting various methods to mark their presence in #Netzero by introducing CO2 footprints into the e-commerce booking flow and gaining transparency. However, as an action, there is a larger effort to adopt SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel) in combination with new technologies that can cut emissions by around 80%. A well-optimized Network planning could also help #Operationalefficiency. Interesting interview that highlights the steps taken by airlines towards carbon offset. The smart deal between Alaska Airlines and Microsoft in partnership with a 12 E-fuel suppliers is a great handshake... #Carbonoffset #Sustainability
After speaking at the Economist Impact Sustainability Week in London, Jonathan Birdwell interviewed me about how aviation can get to #netzero. I shared a few key insights with Jonathan from my book with Dirk Singer Sustainability In The Air. Specifically, I talked about the importance of the aviation industry re-inventing from within while also being open to working with innovators from the outside to become greener. It can't be only an inside job, as we have a large hill to climb. We need to bet on disruptive technologies as well. For more insights, get a copy or download the first chapter of the book free here: https://lnkd.in/gC-XnUYU cc Shivangi Jain Kali Palmer P.S: Jonathan turned out to be a fantastic interviewer who managed to pronounce my name properly both at the start and the end of the interview. You have no idea how rare that is in the Western world! #sustainability

🤔 How do we balance the human need to travel while also decarbonizing aviation? Today, we’re going to hear from one of my favorite people in sustainability. Oliver Haas, Head of Strategy and Partnerships at Magpie Aviation, is speaking to our OnePointFive (opf.degree) Academy community where we’ll dive into this fascinating topic, and more. Some key stats on this issue: ✋ Emissions from aviation make up around 2.5% share of total CO2 emissions, and yet, current aviation alternatives barely cover a third of flight distance 👉 By 2050, Indian and African regions are set to 6x and 3x respectively in carbon emissions, as the growing middle class catches up to the Global North 👉 North America, Europe and Asia Pacific regions are set to roughly double 👉 China is set to 2.6x As someone who has studied abroad in Japan and the US, and have my family scattered over the world in places like Australia, Austria and Malaysia, I’m faced with my own dilemma in flying. 🤔 So how do we carbonize this industry? 🤔 What about the human need for connection, the need to travel to see family & loved ones, the need to travel to explore opportunities like studying abroad and the need (or want) to travel to conferences like COP? 🤔 How do we find a balance between flying for pleasure, work, and family? ~~~~~~~~~ Ollie is a TED-x speaker, and has a fascinating background as an Experience and Innovation Manager, Sustainability Ambassador at Cathay Pacific, leading the launch and build of a global marketplace for high-quality carbon credits at Climate Impact X, and is leading the decarbonization of the aviation industry through battery-electric airplanes at Magpie Aviation. I’ll get Ollie’s take on the decoupling between flying and emissions, and whether there is a way through this difficult conundrum. I’ll link to the sources below in the comments, but let me know what you think as well. Follow us at OnePointFive (opf.degree) or me here, to get the key takeaways I'll share early next week.

I guess, people who are from different sociological, economic or business sectors like most of us, did not even know what the abbreviation IMEX actually meant. To be honest, I hadn’t heard of it until recently perhaps because it wasn't directly related to my profession). However, thanks to this article, I saw that useful thoughts, opinions and visions can be developed for the benefit of the humanity there, and that useful thoughts might be instilled on some people. Examples: Stop or at least reduce the food waste in hotels, gatherings, meetings etc. Reduce carbon footprint by choosing less harmful but logical and viable options. Instill the importance of sustainability principles in the tourist industry not in words but in practice.✅🦅🍃Claus Raasted

It was a really interesting to join the 10th edition of the National Observatory on Sustainable Lifestyles today in Milan and participate in the roundtable with many leading brands like Unipol, Jaguar Land Rover and Henkel, all committed to advancing sustainability. Supported by institutions such as the European Commission and Italy’s Ministry of the Environment, the event offered valuable insights from Ferruccio De Bortoli, former editor-in-chief of Corriere della Sera, Enea Roveda, CEO of LifeGate and Beppe Sala Mayor of Milan. The observatory, launched by LifeGate a decade ago, has tracked Italy’s growing engagement with sustainability, now involving 38 million Italians—an increase from 20.5 million in 2015. This year’s research reveals that 46% of Italians see climate change as the most pressing issue for the next decade, while 27% expect limitations on tourism due to environmental concerns, and 18% believe that AI will revolutionize education. The urgency for cross-industry collaboration and decisive action has never been clearer. #Sustainability #Decarbonization #Innovation #SustainableFuture
