#Airlines were first to develop and use #revenue and #yield management systems decades ago (early 1980s!) that inspired #hotel businesses pricing practices, with a notable delay. Airlines today still seem to be strong in their pioneering ways, introducing #ai driven new technologies to further develop pricing and reservations strategies. Putting in the context my two favorite industry verticals, tech and aviation is actually not hard, not only because I have spent in those industries around 15 years in total, but because they are complement and they support each other on any way possible. #aviation and #tech have been so interconnected in the last 20-30 years that tech has shaped the airline business in a way that could not have been imagined just a decade ago. When I started my career in the airline industry in 2006, the entire world still used manual tickets, written on paper, and fares calculated manually. I remember we had a two-week ticketing/fares training, just to understand the basics of the process. Imagine the collection of #data at that time...and #bigdata is a crucial part of the industry...either it’s related to revenue management, forecasting that uses historic data, fare calculations, budgeting, or aircraft data collected from every single flight that helps to understand the economics, safety, and route calculations. Data is key ingredient for every aspect of the aviation business and all topics related to #AI and how it can support business, make it more efficient and automated, are starting from data usage and understanding. With all meta searches in place, GDSs, implementation and migration to NDCs, trends are clear and more accurate, targeted and tailor-made offerings for passengers come from huge amounts of data and understanding how it can be used on most efficient way. AI in those processes can have a pivotal role and make them faster and easier to understand. One of the best examples of how data can be used and provide benefits to everyone in the process is Flightradar24.
