The Fallacy of a Just and Fair World! 🌎 The story of Ms.Phogat is well-known on that fateful night to lose weight from 52 to 50 kgs is a testament to her determination against overwhelming odds. 🤼♀️ Even though she reduced her weight to 50.1 kgs, that extra 100 grams can alter the course of action.🤏 As a mental health practitioner, we often encounter clients who, despite their efforts, face situations they don't deserve - situations where life is anything but fair. ⚖️ What do we do when life is unjust, and despite giving our all, the outcome is not what we hoped for? - In such moments, it becomes critical to recognise that some situations are beyond our control. 🙂↕️ - The wisdom from Gita- "Karmanyevadhi karasthe ma phaleshu kadachana" (You have a right to perform your prescribed duties, but you are not entitled to the fruits of your actions) - reminds us that our focus should be on our deeds, not the results.🎯 - Regardless of our skills or capabilities, we may find ourselves as mere pawns in the hands of larger forces, whether we see these as Nature, Universe or God. 🌌🌟 - Life is not a linear equation where efforts always equals reward. 🟰 - No matter how ambitious or competitive our spirit, we cannot always control our circumstances. 🧠 What is this teaching us? Many of us feel disheartened when life seems unfair. 💔 The key takeaway is to accept life for what it is and what it offers. 😇 Grounding ourselves in the understanding that while a fair and equal life is desirable, such a guarantee is not promised to anyone. 🤝🙏 Source: News18. https://lnkd.in/dasSfmi9 #vineshphogat #parisolympics2024 #indiaolympics #psychology #sportspsychology #justfairworld #cognitivedistortion #cbt #act #mentalhealth #bhagwatgita

More evidence in the news today ⬇️ that professional athletes need just as much mental health support as every other human being in the world. Just because athletes play sport & for large parts of their career, the perception is they seem to be enjoying what they do, at crucial times they can also need a break & those in charge of the sporting bodies should only ever support the individual rather than judge them ✔️ #mentalhealthmatters #mentoringmatters #rolemodels #supportathletes #respect #decisionmaking 🙏🏼 #discriminations https://lnkd.in/egXAMb76

I can't feel anything but sadness that yet another pro player is taking break from his career in recognition of mental health issues. The reason I feel sad is not because he is having difficulties (and makes a brave decision of noticing and actually doing something about it), but because this could have been prevented. I digress: when I became a therapist I wanted to save the world and everyone in it. I found my method, saw the miracles it performed. The hardest slap on my face was the realisation that not everyone wanted to be saved. Even if I know (from experience) that I can help, not everyone wants it. ... back to Farrell and everyone who are in the same shoes. Going holistic is the ONLY way to prevent these issues happening in the future. It's not a spiritual woowoo. Until clubs and athletes don't fully comprehend the need to INTEGRATE their physical body/mind-emotions/nutrition into one working system, these will keep happening. I love the club's and manager's statement of being fully supporting him. That's great. What if this support would include a different approach to their athletes. A different mindset. A holistic, integrated system. THEN that would make a difference. Until then, I keep shouting the importance of going holistic from the rooftops, supporting whoever raises their hands and wishing all the best to the brave ones who admit they are not human robots... #goholistic #theholisticathlete #holisticisthefuture

In a recent interview, Tottenham's Richarlison opened up about the mental challenges he faced during and after the 2022 World Cup. We often see (or focus) on the triumphs of athletes, neglecting the struggles that go unseen. However, his honesty is a powerful reminder of the importance of mental health, not just in sport, but in all contexts. As I continue my journey in Sport Psychology, Richarlison's experience serves as a vital reminder for me to take into account, as I approach my professional career. These are 3 things I will aim to stay mindful of: 1. Always be mindful of an athlete's mental wellbeing, the pressures they face, and the challenges they experience - it's rarely straightforward. 2. Psychology still faces prejudice, and it will take hard work and dedication to challenge outdated perceptions. 3. Psychology is incredibly important! Whether it's through fostering resilience, enhancing performance, or helping someone with the world on their shoulders reignite their love for a sport and offer a path out of darkness, psychology can and will help. Mental health awareness in sports should also focus on coaches, not just players. Sport is a highly performance-based industry where coaches and players are expected to deliver, not only for fans, but also for administrators, government, and sponsors. The case of former Proteas coach Hilton Moreeng is another example where the organization (CSA) did not prioritize his mental well-being as long as he continued his job. Moreeng remained with the team despite his struggles, but his employers failed him by not finding a timely replacement. Moreeng lost the dressing room, the support of the South African cricket community, and the series against Sri Lanka, which exacerbated the situation. During this mental health awareness month, Moreeng bravely decided to step down as coach of the Proteas women's team. Now, he can peacefully enjoy Mother's Day with his family, which will contribute to his mental well-being. To all stakeholders in sports, it is important to consider the mental health of others before criticizing. Criticizing without empathy can lead to the abuse of those individuals under the guise of constructive criticism, which is a potential downside of being involved in professional sports. 📌 Hilton Moreeng justifiably drops the Proteas ahead of the India tour – Four6Out bit.ly/3y7tfur #MentalHealthMonth #MentalHealthAwareness #Cricket #CricketCoach

Student athletes today often specialize in 1 sport, play the sport year-round, and rarely take time off from the sport -- all reasons why so many kids today experience sport burnout. https://lnkd.in/gHFzWMaK #sports #psychology #mentalhealth #mentalillness #kids

Football is embracing mental health - hopefully for good. Out of the many topics and causes that football can help amplify and tackle, mental health has been a hot one lately. We are seeing campaigns and initiatives from different clubs, organizations and players coming forward and sharing their stories. Here are some highlights from the past months: 👉 Juventus Football Club released a new podcast where guests will share mental health journeys. "Stories of Strenght" is hosted by a therapist and a psychologist, and the debut episode features goalkeeper Matia Perin: https://lnkd.in/ddmeMgdz. 👉 Norwich City Football Club's incredible World Mental Health video went viral and the club is now making it available for download as part of their mission to boost mental health: https://lnkd.in/d3tK5_YG. 👉 Common Goal recently launched the "Create the Space" movement, formed by a collective of international players to equip football to understand, prevent, and deal with mental health issues: https://lnkd.in/dT3QtfCB. Earlier this year, the organization had also worked on an initiative with the USWNT to promote conversations around mental health ahead of the FIFA Women's World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023™: https://lnkd.in/drNZxpRd. Were there any other football-centred projects or content around mental health and wellbeing that stood out to you recently? #football #mentalhealth #footballforgood #sportforgood

The world just got a front-row seat to some serious athletic greatness at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris!! With over 10,000 top athletes in the mix, it’s clear that performance isn’t just about muscle– it’s about mental fitness too! Sure…..elite athletes spend years getting their bodies in peak condition, but let’s not forget the Mindwork that goes into it. They deal with intense pressure, the highest expectations, and endless scrutiny, which means staying mentally tough is just as important as any workout. It’s all about consistently building a strong, resilient mindset that supports peak performance and allows them to handle the HEAT and stay sharp when it really matters! So, as we cheer for our amazing athletes, let’s remember to give a little love to our own mental fitness too… We are all corporate athletes on this platform! Whether you’re tackling a big project or just working hard during a busy summer week (relate much?!), cultivating mental fitness habits can help us navigate our own pressures and excel in whatever we want to accomplish! Let’s work to keep our head in the game!! 💪🏅 (Thanks to friend of MYNDY—Freddy Nguyen, MD, PhD—for the article tip! If you have any - send em our way at team@myndy.co or tag us) #Olympics2024 #MentalFitness #Resilience #Focus #HighPerformance
As I’ve watched Team USA compete this year, I’ve noticed how well-prepared many athletes appear both on and off the field—a testament to the progress being made to center mental health in competition. To perform at our best, we must train our minds with the same dedication we give to our bodies.

Let me be a bad guy here for a moment on two points: (and you are welcome to throw a rock at me) 1, I understand and fully support all athletes who have the guts to stand up for their physical and mental health saying they need a break. But. Accusing their association or club for not supporting them even more is not right. That's like saying my company is responsible for me. Or my parents or the government. I am responsible for me. If I encounter problems, it nobody else's responsibility but mine to find a solution for it. If my company/government/gp/club don't have effective resources, than I go out and find the solution myself. For me. It's self responsibility. (I did it myself when nobody could help me get rid of my panic attacks. They said I had to live with them, which I refused. I went out and found a solution myself that worked.) 2, There are actually ways to prevent this to happen. There are methods, processes and a different mentality that could successfully prevent majority of mental and physical overload. But it's hard to get into mainstream clubs/ thinking with non-conventional methods even though being highly effective. Again, self-responsibility is key. If you feel you don't receive the physical and mental support YOU need, you need to get out and find it for yourself. Don't wait until it's too late. When you are completely burnt out or the pain is unbearable. There are excellent therapies and methods yet unknown that are very effective. Prevention, open-mindedness and self-care are all keys to a long healthy fulfilling career. ##goholistic #theholisticathlete #holistocisthefuture
