Inspired after spending a week with Mais A and the remarkable The White Helmets leadership in the Bay Area. Over the past several months, we’ve collaborated to strengthen their resource mobilization strategy—targeting foundations, high net-worth donors, and forging partnerships across academia and the corporate world. In the midst of the intensifying Israel-Gaza conflict, the escalating bombardments have not only heightened tensions but also triggered significant humanitarian crisis. Thousands of people find themselves directly impacted by these overt aerial attacks, facing the devastating consequences firsthand. The toll on innocent lives, homes, and critical infrastructure underscores the urgent need for a swift and comprehensive international response. Now, more than ever, collaborative efforts must focus on alleviating the immediate humanitarian crisis, promoting meaningful dialogue, and working towards a sustainable resolution, such as a two-state solution. This approach aims to not only address the pressing issues but also ensure a more secure and stable future for all communities affected. Since the earthquake in February 2023 the overall humanitarian response in Northwest Syria #NWS has removed around 800,000 m3 of #debris. UNDP with it's debris management mandate has been involved in removing a big part of it. It's been a programme with many challenges that has taken more than a year and is not close to the same complexity that will be faced once debris removal can start in #Gaza. It has to be a well-planned and collaborative effort between different actors to secure safe access and returns for the people. This would be a first step towards #earlyrecovery.

Grievances between different ethnic groups and an unstable security situation are important drivers of ISIS recruitment, but other dynamics are often ignored. An insurance payout for our Disaster Response Emergency Fund (IFRC-DREF) has just been activated as disaster response demands have passed their CHF 33M trigger point, says Nena Stoiljkovic, IFRC USG for Global Relationships, Humanitarian Diplomacy and Digitalization, at #SDGLive. The IFRC-DREF could receive up to CHF 15M as demands from natural hazard-related disasters rise. It provides fast funding to National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, especially for smaller emergencies that often go unnoticed globally. #GlobalGoals
