With a projected global market size of $9.66 billion by 2029, Virtual Production (VP) is quickly becoming the future of content creation and it is easy to understand why. VP is a process that integrates real-time digital imagery, projected on large LED walls with live-action filmmaking. Visual effects are also applied and captured in-camera in real time. The convergence of advanced LED technology, motion capture and real-time visual effects rendering, offers creatives new way of bringing remote locations onto a soundstage. With media professionals no longer relying on a specific location for filming, a world of possibilities opens for talent and companies in Singapore’s media industry to compete and flourish globally. Being a city-state, Singapore has few locations suitable for on-location filming and little available land on which to erect large sets. Virtual production removes location-related issues including road closures, location permits, space renting, set building, and weather-related challenges. There is a strong signal from media players that virtual production technology will be widely used in film and television production in Singapore and become the industry norm in the coming years. To help local media companies and professionals adopt this emerging technology and hold their own against global players, IMDA supports through many initiatives to advance the industry’s virtual production capabilities. Virtual production has gained momentum in Singapore, with several studios embracing its potential. One notable player is Oceanus Media Global (OMG), a local media tech company that actively explores virtual production techniques. In 2022, the company launched its first VP studio in Singapore which comes equipped with LED panels capable of generating photorealistic backgrounds and special effects, rendered using Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 4. By synchronizing the movements of physical and virtual cameras, the VP studio creates the illusion of individuals standing in front of the LED wall are part of the virtual world. OMG has also worked with various local companies to develop short-form VP content, lending its expertise in VP to augment production workflows and boost storytelling quality. Most recently, OMG expanded its presence in the region having opened its newest, state-of-the-art VP facility housed within Iskandar Malaysia Studios (IMS). One of the largest full-scale VP studios. Trilogy Studios Is Building Three ‘State-of-the-Art’ Virtual Production Stages in Fort Worth - at 157 feet wide and nearly 24 feet tall, the "largest" virtual cinematic LED volume in the state of Texas is just part of what's being built in Fort Worth by Trilogy Studios—a partnership between Trinity Broadcasting Network and Seattle's Optic8. By blending physical and virtual filmmaking techniques, virtual stages can make an indoor set seem like almost anything—and anyplace—you can imagine. And now more of this “virtual action” is coming to North Texas. The stages aim to cater to “the growing demand for premium virtual production facilities in the film, television, and commercial markets,” Trilogy Studios said. “We believe virtual production stages are the future of filmmaking, and we’re thrilled to bring this world-class facility to the state of Texas as the new creative beacon of the industry,” Trilogy Studios Studio Director Joe Worth said in a statement. Along with its stages, Trilogy Studios says it will offer “data-driven digital marketing and distribution capabilities to serve filmmakers.” “The great thing about virtual production is that for the first time, we can transport the talent and the audience without leaving the studio,” Manjee told Dallas Innovates. “This in my estimation will have the same impact to storytelling as electricity had on factories of the early 1900s. Freed from the constraints that came from power distribution, the industrial revolution was unleashed.” The Trilogy Studios stages should make North Texas an even more attractive hub for the film, TV, and commercial production industry. Texas A&M is bringing its own ‘extending reality’ tech to Fort Worth Trilogy Studios won’t have a monopoly on virtual production in Fort Worth. In February, we told you about Texas A&M’s Virtual Production Institute, which will be part of the Texas A&M School of Performance, Visualization and Fine Arts. It will be based on the Bryan-College Station campus with an extension at the new Texas A&M-Fort Worth campus, the system said. The “first-of-its-kind” institute will integrate real-world scenarios and the latest in extended reality technology to advance problem-solving and support workforce development across industries. This same amazing and highly profitable feat can be accomplished in other parts of Texas. With solid planning, knowledgeable film industry guidance, and community and state support virtual production stages can be built in other parts of Texas and provide the same economic, cultural, and sustainable rewards as will be realized in North Texas and in the Brazos/Central Texas area. https://lnkd.in/gbpJZB4p

Here's an in-depth look at the virtual production for the Ted TV series now streaming on Peacock! ViewScreen, created by Seth MacFarlane's Fuzzy Door Tech enabled real-time simulcam to bring the fully CG Ted into the viewfinders and monitors of the crew live on set. Some details: The integration of ViewScreen technology in Ted's production significantly improved how the crew visualized and interacted with the animated character. Faith Sedlin, President of Fuzzy Door Tech, described the impact, stating, "ViewScreen Studio was critical for planning shots and how the team approached filming. It allowed them to visualize the digital asset in real-time and treat Ted like any other actor or live-action element. ViewScreen transformed the creative process by removing the guesswork, resulting in a faster turnaround time." Brandon Fayette, Chief Product Officer of Fuzzy Door Tech, highlighted the challenges of traditional VFX filming and the advantages of ViewScreen, saying, "Filming with VFX components can be challenging because an essential part of the scene is left to the crew's imagination. On Ted, using ViewScreen meant that everyone could see the composited scene, including the digital bear, in video village in real-time." Hey, VFX Do you need change? In the dynamic world of big firms and large-scale studios, daily challenges are a constant, Personally, I chose the visual effects industry to avoid becoming a dog in a corporate structure, as an artist, freedom is crucial to us. I turned around after while joining companies, my experience revealed a different reality. Instead of artistic freedom, I found myself stuck to structured pipelines where departments pass along a single concept frame, and achieving the level of detail feels like an uphill battle. In India, I can truly say that there is zero respect for artist from management, Their primary focus to be catching client deadlines. No matter from how many hours constantly the guy was working. While I understand the necessity of delivering high level output, but we can improve here! Recently, I came across the inspiring story of SHIROGUMI INC. They won the 96th Academy Award with just 𝟯𝟱 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲, completing 𝟲𝟭𝟬 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘁𝘀 in 𝟴 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵𝘀 under the straight direction of the legendary Takashi Yamazaki. Without the mediators like production coordinators and so-called producers and managers. "Their frustration-free approach allowed artists to exceed their usual limits." On the other hand, I've spent countless hours in studios, sometimes waiting 4 to 5 hours for a single frame review. The pipeline and mediators were dumb. Movie over 4000+ VFX shots, standing out in theaters require marketing based on quantity rather than quality. I came to know that "We ax on our legs." Even we lose single shot creativity because of those levels of reviews ruined director's vision. Ultimately, about improvement from cemented pipelines. Deliver top-notch work is crucial, because It's about entertainment. 𝗜𝘁'𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘀𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗲.
