Who’s in your starting lineup? Oh man, let me tell ya, back in the day, my team and network were more like a motley crew than the dream team I’ve got now. If I had just a crystal ball or something to show me how crucial it was to have my vision locked down tight, maybe I would’ve picked my squad with a bit more finesse from the get-go. But hey, we’re all geniuses in hindsight, aren’t we? Now, when you’re strutting your stuff in front of investors, showing off your startup team, it’s not just a meet and greet. You gotta dive deep. Talk about what each player brings to the table - their skills, their war stories, and how they’re gonna help you conquer the world. And it’s not just about throwing resumes and headshots at investors. You need to paint a picture of a well-oiled machine. How do you all click? Who’s got your back from the advisory board? Toss in some visuals to keep it interesting, and don’t shy away from talking about where you’re still beefing up the ranks. This isn’t just about bragging rights; it’s about showing you’ve got the right folks to turn your big ideas into reality. Get investors excited about your team’s mojo, and you’re halfway to getting them to open their wallets. #startuptips #thecfoguy #team

Syndicate leads should have skin in the game. But it’s important to remember that not all syndicate leads have a lot of extra money lying around either. When I started organizing SPVs, I was investing $1k into each deal. It’s all I could invest at the time — and it’s actually one of the reasons why I started a syndicate. I didn’t feel comfortable negotiating a founder down to accept my $1k check every time…I wanted to pool together more capital from high-caliber peers that I had previously worked with at Lyft. As an LP, making sure your lead has skin in the game is a good due diligence checkbox. But don’t be turned off if it’s ~only ~ $1k.

🐂 Dear BullPerks Community, In light of recent launches, performance results, and instances of projects not honoring contracts, we have carefully analyzed our operations and decided to implement some changes. Moving forward, we will divide our IDOs into three categories:  1. 🚀 BullPerks Incubations: These are projects in which we're actively involved. We will oversee all aspects personally.  2.  🏆 Top-tier Projects: We will launch high-potential projects that we believe are robust enough for our platform. Several such projects are already signed up, but we'll review them all once again.  3. 👥 Community-Chosen Projects: Projects that won’t pass our strict new DD process but have potential will be offered to our tier holders to vote on whether we will launch them or not.  Detailed mechanics and process will be shared later. 🌟 We aim to prioritize quality over quantity and will only launch projects that meet our stricter criteria. Furthermore, we will devote more attention and resources to launching our own incubations and the projects in which we're involved. 🔍 We plan to present some very high-quality projects in private rounds. 🤝🏻 To ensure adherence to agreements, we will make our contracts more stringent and hire a legal team to pursue any projects that fail to honor their contracts. 🚀 Lastly, we will substantially increase our marketing efforts, networks, and services. Happy Monday! I wanted to (finally) share my 2023 Summer Founders Demo Day Pitch. If you didn't know.. over last summer I had the privilege of participating in Summer Founders, a 12-week program that is designed for students with early stage startups to work on their ventures. Being a student entrepreneur, it can get quite frustrating when you have a vision and the passion to solve a problem but might not see the amount of progress on your startup that you want. If I have learned anything from Vince DiFelice & Summer Founders it is that.. 1) it is okay to put the start up down, 2) it is okay to pick it back up, and 3) it is okay to go back to the problem & restart from the beginning!!! Over the next semester, Relief Chronic Care will be going BACK to the problem and its' identified problem owners. The hope is to create customer journey maps to see the full journey of these women with chronic illness, and where Relief can provide the most unique value. Stay tuned!!! https://lnkd.in/eqHJ9g2w

The journey starts here...

I learned a lot about successful startups working at ClockShark for 6 years. The things that stick tight for me are: 1. Customers First - A regular mantra to remind us why we're doing what we do. 2. Professional Team - We're not a family, we're a professional team, which establishes an attitude of celebrating success, working together to get the job done, and putting aside any personal differences to serve the customers. Many thanks to Joe Mitchell and Cliff Mitchell for teaching me those lessons.

The median number of days between venture rounds hit all-time highs in 2023. Today, the gap between a priced seed and Series A stretched to 679 days - over 1.8 years. Some founders I've spoken to are intentionally pushing out milestones to control cash burn. They're developing contingency plans to buy enough runway or trim expenses before hitting projections. But there's good news. Round intervals are likely to plateau in 2024. After that, off to the races.
