#StoriesToInspire The three founders of Bureo Inc. have been on a mission to tackle ocean #plasticpollution since 2013. Determined to make a difference, they left their former careers behind to dream big and create 'Skateboards for Plastic-Free Oceans'. After months of research and collaboration with experts, they discovered that recycled plastic from fishnets could make durable skateboards while cleaning up our waterways. Fast-forward to April 2014, when they launched a funding project to kickstart production. Their goal? $25,000. The response was overwhelming! By May, they had raised $64,554! Today, Bureo Inc. produces the world’s first skateboards and sunglasses made from recycled fishing nets, empowering coastal communities and creating a positive impact on our environment. #plasticfreeskate #environmentalheroes

Along with diverting waste from area landfills through secondhand retail and donations operations, #didyouknow that our local nonprofit keeps plastic out of waterways through a planet-first plastic film recycling program? Plastics pollute landfills, are littered around the community, or are tossed in unregulated dump sites, adversely affecting humans, wildlife, and their habitats. Our collaboration with Trex Company has already reduced the volume of discarded plastic. Since the partnership started, we proudly announce that our community (that means you!) has kept more than seven million plastic bags out of the environment! About the Partnership: In 2022, three independent and geographically adjacent Goodwill organizations announced a partnership with Trex to collect plastic film for Trex composite decking products. Trex is the world’s largest composite decking company, offering various composite outdoor products, including fencing, furniture, and pergolas made from 95% recycled plastic and wood pulp material. The public can now bring clean, dry plastic film to any Goodwill of Greater Washington retail store to be recycled at no charge. ♻️Today is Global Recycling Day, a day to remember that the world is precious and not full of limitless resources…That we are custodians of our planet and should be mindful of our materialist habits and wasteful tendencies… 🛠️Here at Splash, we use sustainably sourced timber, and every bit is carefully measured and allocated during the design process so there is little, if any, excess, remaining at the end of a project. If there is, it’s reused. ♻️We’re proud to have launched our ‘go-karts with a purpose’ challenge with IE Business School last year which involved students building go-karts, racing them, and then dismantling them and recycling the wood into garden furniture for local charities. 💪 ♻️And, just a few weeks ago, we were part of an initiative which involved us dismantling an adventure playground and then salvaging reusable timber which has been recycled into another playground.💪 #worldrecyclingday #csr #socialimpact #teambuildingwithapurpose #recycle #teamwork

5th June 2024 marks Environmental Day, a global initiative aimed at raising awareness and promoting action towards environmental conservation. Plastic fishing is a unique approach to tackling the issue of plastic pollution in our oceans and waterways. It involves individuals or groups going out on boats equipped with special nets to collect plastic waste from the water. The collected plastic is then sorted and properly disposed of or recycled. This activity serves multiple purposes. First and foremost, it helps remove harmful plastic waste from aquatic ecosystems, preventing it from harming marine life and polluting our waters. By engaging in plastic fishing, individuals actively contribute to the preservation of our environment. Moreover, plastic fishing also serves as an educational tool, raising awareness about the severity of plastic pollution and its impact on the planet. Through hands-on participation, people can witness the scale of the problem and understand the importance of reducing plastic consumption and properly managing waste. https://buff.ly/3Uq9Ii1

Net Zero Waste Case Study: Garden Centre Disposal We were recently called to a large garden centre that had been affected by recent storms. Despite a lot of damage, a significant quantity of stock items were salvageable, and our team sprang into action to ensure they were handled responsibly. From the damanged items, we managed to save approximately 150 tons of waste, including wood and plastics, sending them to our trusted recycling partners for processing. Recognising the value in community support, we decided to donate the planters to a local charity, ensuring they found new life and purpose. In just two days, Evoque cleared the site entirely. By diverting materials from landfills and promoting reuse, we're proud to have played a part in minimising environmental impact. 🌍 Go to our website for more interesting case studies like this one - https://lnkd.in/e8FFuKqN #Evoque #NetZeroWaste #Sustainability #CaseStudy #Recycling #CommunitySupport #EnvironmentalImpact #GardenCentre #StormDamage #CircularEconomy

One man sat on a toilet for 50 hours to change the world. This is his story. In 2012, three friends discovered something shocking: 40% of the world didn’t have access to a toilet. When they dug into it, they discovered more: - 289,000 under 5s die because of this - That’s 800 children a day - Or one every 2 minutes The three friends decided to do something big. They set up an IndieGoGo, and one of the friends sat on a toilet in a warehouse. He refused to leave until they had raised enough pre-orders to start product production - can you guess the product? 50 hours into the campaign, they had raised $50,000 - the green light to get off the toilet and start making the product. They sold and delivered their first product in 2013 and vowed to give away 50% of their profits to help build toilets in the developing world. Today they: - Are a certified B Corp - Have a $99m valuation - Raised over $8m to solve the toilet problem They’re also on a mission to save the world from deforestation by using sustainable materials like bamboo in their products. Have you guessed who’s story I’m telling? Answers in the comments.
