Our team from MCST is proud to join the 6PAC+ and Belize delegations at the UNSIDS conference in the Caribbean! We are on a mission at the Global Supply Chain Forum 2024 in Barbados to chart a resilient future for trade amidst the challenges faced by small island developing states (SIDS). This critical event, featuring leaders like UNCTAD Secretary-General Rebecca Grynspan, UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed, and Prime Minister of Barbados Mia Amor-Mottley, is a platform for discussing the multifaceted challenges and opportunities in supply chains. Key themes include the vulnerability of supply chains to disruptions, the importance of regional cooperation, and the need for infrastructure development and digitalization. The forum also emphasized the role of SMEs, financing, and international cooperation in building resilient, sustainable, and inclusive supply chains. Notably, the announcement that Saudi Arabia will host the next Global Supply Chain Forum in 2026 highlights ongoing global commitment to these issues. Stay tuned for updates as we work together towards a more equitable, sustainable, and resilient future for global trade! #SustainableDevelopmentGoals #unsids #globalsupplychainforum #ResilientFuture Atina Schutz Aileen Sefeti John Kautoke

Today, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the CoR, at the plenary session of the European Summit of Regions and Cities on the 'vision of regions and cities for the future of Europe', the Mons Declaration was adopted – a declaration that sets out the vision of regions and cities for the future of Europe and reaffirms the commitment to delivering a stronger, fairer and more resilient Europe. https://lnkd.in/ezUYqv3Z "Regions and cities must be heard when the next Strategic Agenda of the European Union, as well as the next political priorities of the European Commission, are being formulated. We call on European leaders to do more to ensure that all EU policies are anchored in the local and regional level, thus reinforcing the democratic legitimacy and efficiency of these policies. We must work together at all levels, where a real difference can be made, be it at European Union, national, regional or local levels. Together, regions and cities have the power to deliver a stronger, fairer and more resilient Europe." #eulocal #SommetMons24 #EU2024BE European Committee of the Regions Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2024 Wallonie Bruxelles International Permanent Representation of Belgium to the European Union

I look forward to participating in the #LacForum at the OECD HQ in Paris, tomorrow and to speak at the session immediately before - to mark the launch of the new publication - « Caribbean Development Challenges » produced jointly by the IADB and the OECD’s Development Center. The region of my birth faces significant headwinds on multiple fronts during this period of rolling crises. These have laid bare their many structural and other vulnerabilities - but these challenging times are not without opportunities for those willing to navigate current waves of geopolitical turbulence in recasting the concept of partnerships - around common interests.

"A strong and important statement by European Australian Business Council (EABC) & BusinessEurope on the absolute necessity to conclude the AU-EU Free Trade Agreement," says The Group of Eight CE Vicki Thomson. As Australia's research and innovation heavy weights The Group of Eight strongly supports both the statement and the successful conclusion of the FTA negotiations. Europe is a global leader in research and innovation. Indeed, the European Commission has identified Innovation as integral to many of its priorities, with more effort 'needed to create the ecosystems that encourage innovation, research and development (R&D), and entrepreneurship.' The Group of Eight contends that trade deals that support ‘knowledge’ trade via R&D and Innovation can only help Australia in securing its place as global leader in these areas. In turn these ‘knowledge trade routes’ attract inward investment into Australia and support our capacity to develop and secure critical technologies with likeminded, values aligned countries. Foreign policy expert: Black Sea security | Ukraine | Türkiye | Professor of National Security Studies, George C. Marshall Center Non-resident Senior Fellow, Atlantic Council [Views are my own]
Two years into Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the battle for the Black Sea - once an “invisible front” of the Russian war - has come into the spotlight. With multiple global repercussions of the Russian aggression in Ukraine, it has become clear that what happens in the Black Sea does not stay in the Black Sea. Invading sovereign states, undermining the freedom of navigation and security of supply chains, violating international maritime law, using electronic warfare and spoofing, threatening the safety of critical infrastructure - all of these Russian malign activities in the Black Sea create dangerous precedents for the future warfare far beyond the Black Sea coasts. It is a high time to develop a bold and comprehensive strategy to deter Russia, bolster defense capabilities of regional allies, and demonstrate a firm resolve to defend rules-based order to Iran and China. I had a privilege to lead the George C. Marshall Center effort to organize a conference, in cooperation with the Romanian National Defense University, to explore ways to strengthen NATO’s defense and deterrence in the region, ramp up cooperation among the regional states, and discuss the US Black Sea strategy. My heartfelt thanks to the GCMC team for a terrific support on all stages of preparation, to our partners, and, of course, to all our participants and speakers.
