As the world grapples with climate change, the fashion industry is stepping up to reduce its carbon footprint. Did you know fashion contributes to 10% of global carbon emissions and is a major polluter of freshwater? The complexity of clothing supply chains makes it challenging to account for all emissions. Plus, the pressure to stay on-trend leads to excessive consumption of polymer-based clothing like polyester, which relies on 70 million barrels of oil annually. But there's hope! Bio couture and sustainable materials are gaining traction, offering environmentally friendly alternatives. The goal? A fashion system that's both eco-friendly and socially responsible. Join the movement towards sustainability in fashion! 🌿💚 #SustainableFashion #ClimateAction #fashionrevolution

This! This is another reason why being a conscious human being and leader applies. Let's not overlook the valuable parts fashion provides while eliminating the unnecessary ones. Small individual actions create large collective change. When we shift to conscious consumption, we can reduce the amount of waste that goes into landfills. Thank you, TEDxLondon for sparking this conversation. Here's how to shift into conscious consumption: https://lnkd.in/ediyVY5e #consciousleadership #EvolutionRevolution #sustainability #minimalism #savetheplanet #aware #opentowork
“100 billion items of clothing are made every single year and 3 out of 5 items end up in landfill within the first year of purchase. That is set to increase by 63% by 2030.” Fashion has a waste problem. In their #TEDxLondonCountdown talk, sustainable fashion leaders Amy Powney and Josephine Philips share the shocking reality of waste in the fashion industry - both individually and collectively by brands/fashion orgs. The new report with important data about greenwashing/consequences is available!
Big brands are making alarming lack of progress and action toward decarbonisation 🏭📈 Stand.earth Stand Earth's 2024 Clean Energy Close Up report found that the majority of brands are not on track to reduce their emissions and many are heading in the wrong direction. "No matter the price printed on the tag, people and the planet are left to pay the true costs." While ultra-fast fashion brands are unsurprisingly slacking on their decarbonisation efforts, the report finds that both sportswear and high street brands are also failing to meet their targets. Fashion labels have increased their sales and with them their carbon emissions, putting at risk the climate goals of 2030. Sustainability experts and research institutions agree that consumers should buy less clothing; fashion companies must produce and sell fewer items, and their production needs to be more efficient to curb emissions. Even governments need to step up their efforts to force the industry to face the ever-growing volume problem effectively. What's the problem, then? All actors are unwilling or unable to challenge the status quo. https://lnkd.in/e7NSbYFj
