The term CASE was coined to describe four pivotal areas of technology that have since shaped automotive product development: connected, automated, shared, and electrified. Recently, a roundtable organised by international automotive network ASSOCIATION GERPISA featured FISITA’s Rémi Bastien in a debate on the merits of CASE alongside industry experts Patrick PELATA and Takahiro Fujimoto. Chaired by Tommaso Pardi, Director of GERPISA, the panel delved into various topics under the theme, “Convergence and divergence of trajectories of changes. The end of the CASE paradigm in the automotive industry?” Panellists:  - Remi Bastien: Special Advisor to the FISITA CEO and former VP automotive prospective of Renault Group  - Patrick Pelata: President of Académie des technologies, President of Meta Consulting LLC, former Chief Operating Officer of Renault  - Takahiro Fujimoto: Professor at Waseda University, Professor Emeritus at The University of Tokyo, and Senior Research Associate at Harvard Business School    Discussion highlights:  - CASE – a paradigm shift, or mere hype?  Despite significant investment, CASE is far to fully realise the vision of a world dominated by connected, autonomous, shared, and electric vehicles as initially projected a decade ago. The panel debated whether CASE represents a true paradigm shift or if it has been overhyped. - What happens next?  Given the varied maturity levels of CASE components, the discussion explored current focal points in automotive technology development and what the future might hold. The panellists do not believe in a future with 100% sales with CASE products. Remi BASTIEN (FISITA) stated that, regarding the impact for the society and environment, the S for share is the most important... but the most difficult dimension to achieve.  - Regional development trends  The panel examined whether the divergent development patterns in different countries and regions will persist, or if new automotive technologies will eventually converge into global standards, creating a truly global market.    This insightful debate sheds light on the evolving landscape of automotive technology and the future direction of CASE initiatives.
