🇺🇸 Worried about political giving impacting your fall fundraising? Don’t be. Evidence shows it won’t. Charitable giving has increased in 9 of the last 10 presidential election years. Political giving is less than 2% of all charitable donations. Elections can actually boost awareness of civic duty, leading to increased charitable donations. Stay the course: - Mail fall appeals in September/October and end-of-year appeals before Thanksgiving or early December. - Inspire donors with thank-yous, stories, and impact reports. - Ensure timely thank-you letters, calls, and emails, especially to first-time donors. - Continue soliciting via email until New Year’s Eve. Five Maples is here to help. Here’s to a successful fall and end-of-year fundraising season!

A reminder for election year giving! While charitable donations remain steady during elections, sources predict that political contributions might impact your clients' charitable budgets. When discussing philanthropy plans for 2024, consider advising clients to adjust gift amounts due to increased demand for funding community nonprofits. Also, remind them that political donations are not tax deductible. It's a simple rule that can catch some off guard!

I have seen a few negative articles in the media recently about gift cards, and what happens to the leftover dollars after they expire. While Chuffed Gifts are NOT dollar value gift cards, and the vast majority of Gifts we sell are used at one of our awesome experience partners, there is a small percentage of our gifts that reach the 2-year mark without being used. So, we've set up an alternative outcome. Chuffed Gift recipients now have the choice of five awesome Kiwi charities to donate the value of their gift to: https://lnkd.in/gb-cnK-f We set up Chuffed Gifts to be an incredible gift with a great outcome for all, and this is the next step in that direction.

Serving the charitable needs of donors, potential donors, nonprofits, CPAs, wealth advisors, and trusts & estates attorneys
Prepare for Taxmageddon! So says Sara Barba (colleague to our most recent guest Sandra Swirski), who is an expert federal policy consultant and lobbyist for charities, as well as a principal at Integer, LLC---and the latest guest on the Money to Give podcast series. The expiring tax cuts of 2025 are getting people anxious! There is a lack of education and understanding that members of Congress and their staff have about what the philanthropic sector really does. Worse, threats to the sector are NUMEROUS and a bit unknown until election day on November 5, 2024. And, U.S. legislators may be looking to nonprofits as a source of revenue! Yikes! What is to happen? How will things look a little different from the 2017 “pro-growth” mindset of legislators seven years ago? What can we collectively do about that? The podcast is found on Apple: https://lnkd.in/eNsshtJb Or Spotify: https://lnkd.in/edUDy4Fj Or Amazon Music: https://lnkd.in/edPREw5F You can also e-mail Sara at sbarba@integerpolicy.com or visit the philanthropy portion of her website at https://lnkd.in/gikHN3zA

Decorations are up, your Christmas sermon planning is in full swing, and in the midst of all the organizing and planning you have one more thing on your mind—end-of-year giving. 31% of charitable giving happens in December because for many donors this is the last chance to get their giving reflected on this year’s taxes, and for companies their fiscal year often ends in December. Anywhere you look this time of year, it’s common to see organizations putting together one big push for donations before January 1. However, churches and church leaders can often feel deterred from talking about this topic too much for fear of being pushy, seeming ungrateful, or to focus on other important reminders during the holiday season. While we want to be intentional about how we talk about finances, we also have a responsibility to think and talk about end-of-year giving in a way that honors our church’s mission and doesn’t let this opportunity go unnoticed. Here are a few tips on how to approach end-of-year giving: https://buff.ly/3sZUYLF

Tip #5 from Maryann Fernandez: 👪 Establish a Grandparent / Grandchild philanthropy program for your family. It’s easy: grandparents set aside a sum of money, each grandchild gives a donation (not necessarily a large sum) to the nonprofit of their choice, and children and grandparents come together to discuss the impact of the gifts. The Benefit? It’s a meaningful way to transfer stories, share values, and strengthen bonds between the two generations. Here’s a link to an interview with respected family wealth advisor, James E. Hughes Jr., talking about Grandparent / Grandchild philanthropy: https://lnkd.in/e7KqYSb7 #philanthropy #giving #nonprofits #wealthmanagement #familybonding
