One of the most interesting things about working with digital image correlation is that sometimes unexpected phenomena emerge when you least expect it. Our latest test, conducted at a local shooting range with a pair of Photron Fastcam Nova S16 cameras, persuasively demonstrates the potential of the VIC-3D 10 DIC system for identifying micro-displacements in viscoelastic materials. While analyzing the data generated when a 9mm round was fired into a 6x6x16 block of ballistic gelatin, Correlated Solutions engineers noticed a clear wave propagating through the gel. In this photo of fingerprints taken by the P2Pro thermal imaging camera, it can be observed that fingerprints, unique impressions left by us when touching and pressing, continue to emit detectable heat signals even after being pressed for some time. Under the lens of the P2Pro, every texture of the captured fingerprints is clearly visible, as if silently narrating individual stories.
