Today, nations around the world unite as the 2024 Olympic Games kick-off in Paris. For several athletes, another unifying factor ties them together - their lives being impacted by cancer. Thanks to breakthroughs in treatment, these athletes have had access to the most advanced treatments enabling them to return to the Olympic stage and represent their countries. At FCS, we are proud to be able to offer more clinical trials than any other private oncology practice in Florida and remain a leader in this space worldwide. In fact, the majority of new cancer drugs approved for use in the U.S. were studied in clinical trials with FCS participation, prior to approval. As you watch today's opening ceremonies and the games over the next couple of weeks, we encourage you to learn the stories of these remarkable athletes who have fought for their lives to be able to compete on the world's greatest field. We're proud to share the fantastic commendation ANZCHOG received in the review of the Australian Brain Cancer Mission (ABCM) 🧠 The ABCM was announced in 2017 to provide a dedicated and substantial financial commitment to brain cancer research in Australia to better resource and coordinate efforts to address long standing poor survival and survivorship outcomes. Half way into the 10-year plan, the independent review assessed whether investments made through the Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) aligned with objectives set out in the ABCM Roadmap and whether investments have made any achievements. The review stated that investments in national infrastructure to support Australians accessing clinical trials, such as that of ANZCHOG, were well aligned with a role for the Australian Government. Funding provided to ANZCHOG under the ABCM has enabled the opening of 11 paediatric brain cancer clinical trials in Australia, well-exceeding the original target of five. The review highlighted ANZCHOG’s ability to capitalise on opportunities for trial involvement as they arise, therefore enhancing Australian capacity in relation to paediatric clinical trial activity. ANZCHOG was also applauded for its ability to rapidly activate international clinical trials for Australian children 👏 #PaediatricBrainCancer #AustralianBrainCancerMission #CancerResearch #ChildrensCancer

✨ Celebrating European Week Against Cancer ✨ This European Week Against Cancer, we’re uniting to raise awareness about cancer prevention, access to treatment, and support for patients and survivors. At the Federation of European Academies of Medicine (FEAM), we’re dedicated to promoting the importance of cancer screening for early detection and prevention. In 2022, we proudly released the report "Improving Cancer Screening in the European Union." This report is the result of initial scoping and exploratory work by FEAM on behalf of SAPEA (Science Advice for Policy by European Academies). The report plays a pivotal role in informing the Scientific Opinion of the Group of Chief Scientific Advisors, providing evidence-based insights that guide the European Commission and other policymakers. Join us in our mission to improve cancer screening across the European Union. 🌍 Exciting times in Milan! This week, I’m thrilled to be attending a coaching conference alongside Mette Stie, where we’re gearing up to become part of a dynamic team. Our mission? To help other European countries establish comprehensive cancer infrastructures as part of the ambitious EU Horizon project: "COMPREHENSIVE CANCER INFRASTRUCTURES FOR EUROPE (CCI4EU)" 💼 Together with 54 partners from 27 European Member States and 5 Associate Countries, we are developing recommendations that will shape future capacity-building projects and scale up National/Regional Comprehensive Cancer Infrastructures. This initiative is vital to reducing inequalities in cancer care, aligning with the goal of the Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan: ensuring that 90% of eligible cancer patients can access Comprehensive Cancer Centres by 2030. 🤝 A key part of my mission is to guide other countries in improving their practice of shared decision-making with patients. Ensuring that patients are active participants in their treatment decisions is essential for delivering the highest quality care. 💪 The capacity building programme we are working on is a complex intervention, involving integrated actions and collaboration with key stakeholders. It aims to foster better research, improve patient pathways, and ensure high-quality treatment for cancer patients across Europe. 🚀 I’m proud to be part of this journey and excited about the positive impact we will have on cancer care in Europe. #CancerCare #CCI4EU #HealthInnovation #EUHorizon #Milan#Healthcare #CapacityBuilding #EuropeFightsCancer #CFFB #SLB

Mercury and Venus Conjunction, Entering Sign of Cancer June 16 & 17, 2024 The two planets orbiting between us and the Sun enter the sign of Cancer within 3 hours of each other on June 16/17, then come into conjunction on the 17th at 00°19’ Cancer. This is within less than 1/2 a degree of where the Sun wll be on June 20th, makring the beginning of summer in the Northern Hemipsphere and winter in the Southern Hemisphere. Venus ingresses into Cancer on 6/16 at 11:20pm PDT Mercury ingresses into Cancer on 6/17 at 2:07 am PDT Mercury-Venus Conjunction on 6/17 at 5:42 am PDT at 00°19’ Cancer It is common for Mercury and Venus to have conjunctions each year. There are 3 conjunctions in 2024, with this one being the 2nd one. The last one will take place on August 7th. Typically, we can experience 2 to 3 conjunctions between these planets every year and on rarer occasions a 4th conjunction can take place or even just 1 conjunction. Even more rare, are 5 conjunctions between Mercury and Venus. The last time we had 5 conjunctions was in 2008 and the next one in 2048 (we can experience about 5 years every century where there are 5 conjunctions). This current conjunction very close to the June Solstice point (within 2 degrees) is even more rare, happening only 7 times between the year 1900 and 2100. The meaning of this current Mercury-Venus conjunction honors and celebrates the coming Cancerian energy of empathic, nurturing responsiblities and providing safe space for family and community. Both planets are still hidden in the glare of the Sun, so too goes the sign of Cancer, where it may still be not as "seen" in the world. This may bring out the shadow of this hidden energy is locking down to extreme protectiveness and over-providing for family and community. Ultimately, this conjunction can assist us in taping into our hearts and asking ourselves where and how we belong in the world. Are there fears of reaching out to those outside our family or community or even within the family? Perhaps this conjunction can help us look inward to how much we have given and if we have healthy boundaries?
