At UN Climate Change #COP28, the international community has recognized the considerable impact of #climatechange on #health, adopting the UAE Declaration on Climate and Health. This is the time for a #global response. Let’s work together and take #urgent action to address extreme heat, contain the spread of infectious diseases, and limit increases in global temperatures. It is crucial to bolster climate #resilience, adapt #healthsystems, and reduce #emissions and #waste. Let’s act now, not tomorrow: the world can’t afford to wait. 🔥🔥🔥 #Heatwaves – Disastrous Impacts on #Global_Health, #Water, #Food, and #Economy 🔥🔥🔥 Amidst the relentless rise in #temperatures worldwide, heatwaves are wreaking havoc on our planet. These scorching episodes bring forth dire consequences: 🌡️ 1️⃣ #Global_Health_Crisis: 🔥🔥 Heatwaves pose a significant threat to human health, escalating risks of heat-related illnesses and fatalities, particularly affecting vulnerable communities and regions. 💧 2️⃣ #Water_Scarcity: 🔥🔥 Escalating temperatures strain water resources, leading to severe droughts, dwindling water supplies, and jeopardizing agricultural productivity and biodiversity. 🍲 3️⃣ #Food_Insecurity: 🔥🔥 Intensified heatwaves adversely impact crop yields, disrupting food supply chains, and amplifying food scarcity, further exacerbating hunger crises. 💰 4️⃣ Applying the #X0_Wave_theory to the eight crises identified by Prof. #Doost’s research and theories: 1️⃣ Risk of the #Covid19_pandemic 2️⃣ #Biological_attack 3️⃣ #Economic_shift and #Economic_recession 4️⃣ Crises caused by #social_anxiety 5️⃣ High #greenhouse_gas_emissions and #climate_pollution 6️⃣ Crises resulting from #climate_change 7️⃣ #Technological_crises 8️⃣ #Biodiversity_collapse #Economic_Fallout: 🔥🔥 The implications extend to the global economy, with disruptions in agriculture, commerce, and labor productivity, exacerbating #financial_instability and #inequality. The year 2023 stands forecasted as the hottest on record, reflecting a dire need for immediate action against the #ClimateCrisis. Addressing the root causes, alongside adopting #sustainable_measures, has never been more urgent. Applying the #7PS_model prioritized as: 1️⃣ #Cultural 2️⃣ #Environmental 3️⃣ #Social 4️⃣ #Economic 5️⃣ #Technological 6️⃣ #Educational 7️⃣ #Political In addition with the guiding value principles of #peace and #love. 🌍 #Albedo's Role in the Problem of Heatwaves and Global Warming: 🌍 1️⃣ #Reduced_Reflectivity: Albedo measures surface reflectivity. High albedo surfaces, like ice, reflect sunlight, while low albedo surfaces, such as dark soil, absorb heat. Melting ice reduces Earth's reflective surfaces, contributing to higher temperatures. 2️⃣ Increased #Heat_Absorption: Decreased albedo means more solar radiation is absorbed, intensifying global warming. This phenomenon contributes to the escalation of heatwaves, higher temperatures, and greater climate instability worldwide. 🛠️🛠️ #Solutions: 🛠️🛠️ 1️⃣ Promotion of High #Albedo_Surfaces: 2️⃣ #Effective_Landcover_Management: 3️⃣ #Urban_Planning_Strategies: Our current book titled: “#Smart_Cities for #Sustainability: #Approaches and #Solutions” link: https://lnkd.in/ek-JbF76 4️⃣ #Climate_Policies: This is a call for unified action to mitigate these #catastrophic_consequences and pave the way for a #sustainable_future and #resilient_future. #hamid_doost_mohammadian

The UAE COP 28 Presidency is taking the lead in changing food systems around the globe as half of the world's population is affected by food systems, which account for 34% of greenhouse gas emissions. To reduce carbon footprint, prioritizing sustainable plant-based protein like lentils, soybeans which are some of the sources that are high in protein can play a significant role here. This approach not only improves nutrition but will also aid in combating climate change. We appreciate the initiative that COP 28 has been taking to address an important issue with respect to food systems and climate change. COP28 UAE EXHIBITION HIGHLIGHTS ================= A DAILY STRUGGLE FOR WATER 💦 Water still remains a challenge in many countries, billions of people lack access to safe drinking water and sanitation. This widespread challenge is a result of increases in industry, population, changing weather patterns due to climate change, deforestation, and lack of sanitation infrastructure throughout the world. #climateaction #climatejustice #climateresilience #climatecontrol

Millions around the world suffer from chronic hunger, and billions more can’t afford a healthy diet – even as food production causes 30% of global greenhouse gas emissions. If we don’t quickly find new, sustainable ways to produce and consume food, these problems will worsen in only a couple of decades. Last year at #COP28 in Dubai, 160 nations promised to begin including food and agriculture in their climate plans within the next two years. But is it enough? #climatechange #environment

It really says something that it’s taken 28 of the UN’s climate conferences to even mention fossil fuels, the cause of global warming. It’s like a house fire where there’s relief for the survivors and praise for the firefighters but no one says anything about the crowd busily throwing coal, gas canisters and drums of oil onto the blaze. The truth is, some people are too powerful to mess with. So it does count as progress that the role of fossil fuels was officially acknowledged in the COP28 text at Dubai. Sadly the declaration by health ministers on the first Health Day ever held at a COP did not include fossil fuels even though they exacerbate the risks of - checks notes - asthma, strokes, cancer, heatwaves, floods, droughts and much else very relevant to our health. Still, having a day devoted to an issue ignored for far too long is a big step forward. As Uganda’s health minister told us at a roundtable I moderated for Reckitt, everything about climate ends up as a human health problem – whether it’s heat or humidity, drought or floods, disease or pests. For too long climate and health professionals worked in parallel universes. My favourite insight came from Kerala. After devastating floods overwhelmed the healthcare system in 2018, a brilliant solution was found: add another floor on top of the hospitals for the most valuable equipment and most vulnerable patients so they’re safe from the next inundations. If all COPs do is share ideas, they’re worth it. That applies too to the healthcare giants collaborating on reducing emissions. It’s a sector that chucks out 6% of the global total so I was pleased to have the chance to ask Pascal Soriot of AstraZeneca, Paul Hudson, Bill Anderson and Kris Licht how they’re calculating the carbon footprints of the ‘patient pathway’ and of drugs. One emerging and fascinating theme: a focus on prevention so fewer people get ill in the first place. Sometimes the most tangible advances come on the margins. But it takes the COPs to get them started.
