🌟 Addressing Humility in Therapy: A Path to Genuine Connection 🌟 In the world of therapy, humility isn't just a trait—it's a necessity. As therapists, our ultimate goal is to foster a safe and supportive environment for our clients. Yet, without humility, we risk creating barriers instead of bridges. It's crucial to recognize that our clients come with their own stories, strengths, and perspectives. By embracing humility, we ensure we listen more and dictate less, empowering clients to take an active role in their healing journey. Humility allows us to: Understand rather than assume Empathize rather than judge Collaborate rather than control At Flower In The Wind Therapy, we strive to embody these principles, ensuring our clients feel valued and heard. Let's champion humility and make therapy a truly collaborative process. 🌿 How do you see humility playing a role in effective therapy? The progression in therapy is variable for everyone and uniquely individualized. Rarely is there linear, easy progression characterized by instant relational connection with a therapist, immediately fixing problems, getting direct advice or having consistent epiphanies. Therapy can often be described as work. In therapy you work to build a healthy and trusting relationship with your therapist, sometimes you might be at a loss of what to talk about, or you might feel like you only see slow progression. However, as your therapist we are right alongside you to help you navigate the uncomfortable, powerful and healing realizations and growth that come with therapy. We help you develop new skills and offer challenging perspectives to support you. Never compare your journey because you are exactly where you are meant to be and we are here to help you achieve your goals. #mentalhealthawarenessmonth #MHAM2024 #therapyprocess #healingjourney

🌟 "Connected and courageous therapists see beyond behavior to the person beneath." In the realm of therapy, it's essential to look deeper than the surface. Behaviors are often just the tip of the iceberg, masking the true emotions and experiences lying beneath. 🌊 A connected therapist doesn't just observe; they empathize, understand, and connect with the person behind the actions. This courage to delve deeper, to truly see and acknowledge the individual in their entirety, is what fosters genuine healing and growth. Let's celebrate and strive for this depth of connection in our therapeutic practices. 🤝💖 #TherapyInsights #DeepConnection #CourageInCaring #MentalHealthAwareness #BeyondBehavior #intergenerationaltrauma #intergenerationalresilience

Great insight. Counselling education can benefit very much on sharing perspectives on how to approach such sessions
It’s crazy how the best therapy sessions end up being the ones that you walk in with “I don’t really have anything to talk about today.” I used to dread walking into therapy without an agenda or specific things to talk about. Like all other things in life, I felt the pressure to “prepare” for therapy too. That I won’t get the most out of it or that it was a waste of a session if I didn’t. I remember saying this to my therapist too one day. I said “I don’t think I really have anything I want to talk about today” and she replied “that’s perfect.” That ended up being one of the best sessions I ever had. And that’s when it hit: the true work happens when you feel fine. It’s a myth that you only go to therapy when you’re going through something. The truth is all the work you put into therapy during these moments of feeling fine is what sets you up for the moments of despair, anxiety, self-doubt, hopelessness. These moments give you the space to pause, observe, reflect, get creative with the self-talk, try different things to see what sticks. That’s what therapy is for. #therapy #therapist #mentalhealth

When someone is struggling and also in therapy, a narrative I hear often is that they must need a new therapist. Now, to be fair, there are all types of therapists, to include folks who aren't very good at what they do. But what is more likely, is that the client is not ready to do the work that everyone else thinks they should do, rather than what they are actually ready to do themselves. As someone who has been in therapy off and on for many years (practice what you preach!), I can tell you that what I have learned and found effective from each round of therapy has been different, because I was only ready at certain times in my life to explore certain things. We can only go as far in therapy as clients as we are ready to, and it can be a process. Of course, sometimes therapy is a one round experience where the client gets what they need and moves on, but each person is different as I see every week with the clients I work with. It's important to focus on what you feel is most important to you because this is when you get the most benefit from therapy. Remember that efficacy can look different at different times, and that's okay, as long as you're doing the work you feel is most important to you and helping you to move forward. #therapy #mentalhealth #telehealth monicagocial.com
