Practice makes... curious, confident and capable children. That applies to all subjects, including growing and harvesting your food! When children have the opportunity to shape the world around them by growing food, using their own hands, they begin to build a powerful connection to the land. It's the start of a lifelong understanding of how the land sustains us all and how food production impacts our health and the health of the planet. #FoodDiscovery #HandsonLearning #CulturalCapital #Curriculum #HealthyEating #NationalFoodStrategy #SoilHealth

Public health researcher & food forest designer aiming to reduce the negative impacts of food apartheid and chronic disease through gardening. Facilitator, interviewer, data cruncher, podcaster, speaker.
Do you tell your clients or patients to eat healthy? Have you ever asked them if they actually understand what that means or how they get fresh food? I have. In 2014, Irene Yen and I did a community based photo voice study with heart failure (HF) patients. We asked, “What is it like to have HF? What makes it easy? What makes it hard?” Participants took pictures for two weeks, then described photos in follow up interviews. One of the main responses was food. Food was hard. Eating “healthy” was hard. This study sent me on a quest to get people, especially our most vulnerable communities, closer to their food, so I founded Food Indy. As a public health leader and urban agriculture designer, my job is to get people gardening and connected to locally grown foods, to decrease risk for chronic diseases including depression. Growing food is not only about eating, it’s about building connections with community, nature, and oneself, getting outdoors and away from screens for a while. At Food Indy, we believe that food independence, even on a small scale, is critical to improving health. We provide community education programs that engage people in planting, growing and cooking for health. With mental health issues and awareness on the rise, we believe that a closer relationship with the food we eat, contributes to better health and overall wellness. Contact us to engage your patients in self care through gardening and cooking. The outcomes are good for the body and mind. The recent release of 'Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget' brings a refreshing and necessary perspective to children's entertainment. This sequel boldly addresses the realities of the meat industry, portraying the grim conditions of factory farming in a manner that's digestible for younger audiences. In a landscape where children's literature and films often gloss over or completely ignore the truth about animal agriculture, this movie stands out as an important tool for education and awareness. It sparks a critical conversation about the ethical considerations and environmental impacts of meat consumption. As a dad raising my 9-year-old vegan, I appreciate Chicken Run's sequel for its honest portrayal of the meat industry. It's crucial our kids understand the impact of their food choices This film can serve as a catalyst for further discussions about sustainable eating choices and animal welfare, leading to more responsible and ethical consumption habits. #education #sustainability #childrensmedia #ethicalconsumption #foodsystems #animalwelfare #animalagriculture #chickennugget
The new Chicken Run movie is fun — and a damning critique of America’s meat industry

Once upon a time, a farmer grew delicious corn. He won the best corn award every year. A reporter asked him why he shared his best corn seeds with his neighbors, even though they competed against each other. The farmer explained, "The wind carries pollen from one cornfield to another. If my neighbors grow bad corn, it will affect the quality of my corn too. So, to have good corn, I need to help my neighbors grow good corn." This story teaches us about life. If we want a good and meaningful life, we should help others. The value of our lives is measured by how we impact others. If we want to be happy, we should also help others find happiness because our well-being is connected to everyone else's. #HelpingNeighbors #MeaningfulLife #SpreadHappiness #CommunityConnection #PositiveImpact #LifeValues #SharingIsCaring #WelfareForAll #SimpleWisdom #MedicareMisty #medicaremistyletstalkmagazine #medicarebus

Well done to Eat Wild and to Tops Day Nursery. Well researched and written piece in the Times here pointing out the cost to drivers and to agriculture of deer overpopulation in the UK. Only when the militant, anti hunting vegetarians and vegans realise the threat to UK agriculture and the implications of relying solely on imported foods will media such as the BBC and the other left wing media realise how important game hunting and personal choice is. As it is we have a multitude of famers having issues with poorly thought out laws and guidelines, DEFRA allows pollution of the waterways and their IT system is causing issues with subsidy payments to farmers. These same farmers have to cope with supermarkets failing to pay them a fair rate for their produce leaving the UK with millions of acres of grassland and farmland lost to carbon credit woodland and development since 2010 (see farming UK July 2022 or the Independent July 2020). Farmland enough to produce 250,000 tonnes of homegrown food per annum gone forever. Perhaps it is now time to support game shooting and famers alike before the UK becomes a concrete metropolis incapable of sustaining any meaningful home grown produce? Well BBC News The Labour Party will you support UK sustainably and sensible game hunting?
🗞️BREAKING NEWS 🗞️ We are unbelievably proud to have secured this full-page piece in The Times today, which highlights Eat Wild’s work to put wild meat on the menu at a collective of schools, Tops Day Nurseries. This is a huge, multi-faceted win for the countryside community and we are honoured to be successfully spreading the word about the multiple benefits of eating wild meat. https://lnkd.in/emuYa5QW Claire Zambuni Emma Sandham Iona Mackay

Can you guess where Noah the Lion was this weekend? I’ll give you a clue… he was on the hunt for a dragon! That’s right! Noah journeyed over to North Wales for an adventure with dragons and castles, at Conwy Castle! After exploring the castle walls, Noah finished off his fun-filled afternoon by tucking into a delicious vanilla ice cream by the marina, a very fun day indeed (even if he did have to fight off some seagulls to keep hold of his snacks)! ❌ Myth: You can’t consume food if you have a feeding tube 💡 Fact: Many children can continue to eat food when they have a feeding tube in place. A feeding tube is often used to support children who are unable to eat enough food, either because they have a poor appetite, eating is difficult or because their body requires additional energy because of illness. If your child can eat food safely, this should be encouraged and can help to maintain and develop oral eating skills. Stay on the lookout for more of Noah’s upcoming adventures and fun advice about travelling with a feeding tube! #AdvancingPatientCare and #FreseniusKabi 🦁
