Robert F. Smith says🔊#more #to #be #done #beyond advocating for diversity, equity and inclusion. We #must: ✅#broaden our #focus to include #economic #justice – and we can do this by providing #opportunities for #prosperity and #investing in the infinite #potential of #future #generations. ✅#build the #economic #infrastructure needed to #bridge the #racialwealthgap. ✅#invest in #education, #digital #technology and the #talent #pipeline to help close opportunity gaps that affect #Black #Americans, including the #generationalwealthgap.
Black Americans continue to break significant barriers in our society but still endure systemic obstacles that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and other leaders involved in the Civil Rights Movement were devoted to fighting against. Despite these hindrances, Black Americans persevere, remain steadfast and work to shape the future of this country. Yet, there remains a struggle for relevance, a sense of belonging and ownership of this nation. I stood before a crowd at the 60th Anniversary of the #MarchOnWashington for Jobs and Freedom to address the varied courses of action we can take to achieve equality. It goes beyond advocating for diversity, equity and inclusion. We must broaden our focus to include economic justice – and we can do this by providing opportunities for prosperity and investing in the infinite potential of future generations. We must build the economic infrastructure needed to bridge the #racialwealthgap. And it is up to us to invest in #education, digital #technology and the talent pipeline to help close opportunity gaps that affect Black Americans, including the #generationalwealthgap. Quote is on point!
This is about as accurate as it gets. Everyone wants to celebrate under the confetti. Find people who will grind in a cold rain with few people cheering. Battle with them.

As we celebrate the birth of our nation with friends and family this Fourth of July, we are reminded of the principles behind our nation's founding—freedom, opportunity, and the pursuit of happiness for all. These ideals are at the heart of TakeCharge's mission as we work to counter the common narrative that America is systemically racist. Last year, I wrote an Op-Ed (https://lnkd.in/gCFPpSxt) detailing why black Americans don't have to choose between Juneteenth and the Fourth of July - because without the Declaration of Independence, there would be no Juneteenth. And there would be no Juneteenth without the sacrifice of 350,000 white men of the Union Army from non-slave-holding states who died in the Civil War, leading to the Emancipation Proclamation. There are organizations using both holidays to divide the nation by insisting that America has been broken by systemic racism. And this helps no one — black or white. So, today, we honor the progress America has made and the strides we continue to take toward a more prosperous future for every American. Our commitment to ensuring that every individual, regardless of skin color, understands they have the opportunity to achieve the American dream remains unwavering. This Independence Day, we celebrate the American spirit and the promise it holds for the citizens of this nation - regardless of skin color. Wishing you a happy and safe Fourth of July. https://lnkd.in/gHU-uFEB

Memorial Day, originally known as Decoration Day, has its origins in the aftermath of the American Civil War. This was a period marked by deep, lingering wounds and profound loss across the nation. Yet, even as the conflict ended, a tradition of remembrance and reverence began to emerge. Interestingly, the first organized recognition of fallen U.S. soldiers took place on May 1, 1865, in Charleston, South Carolina. This solemn event was organized by Black Americans, who were resilient in their pursuit of justice and equality in the face of immense pain. This act of honoring the fallen speaks to the courage and honor that is ingrained in the fabric of Black history in America. As we observe Memorial Day today, let us take the time to honor the past, celebrate the present, and commit ourselves to building a better tomorrow. We must let the lessons of history guide us, while drawing strength from the spirit of unity and resilience that defines us as a nation. #MemorialDay2024
