🌴 “Not just sticks of carbon” An insightful episode by Radio Davos featuring Tom Crowther, on the importance of recognizing and integrating the role of biodiversity in forest systems as an essential part of the carbon sequestration narrative. “… These are diverse, thriving ecosystems and it is the biodiversity within them that allows them to capture and store all that carbon.” I highly recommend giving it a listen here: https://lnkd.in/gAJzGtC9 #carbon #biodiversity #sustainability #ecosystemrestoration

As attention turns to Colombia and the opening of COP16, instead of FOMO5, we are revisiting an episode of our podcast, Sandbox, that looks at biodiversity in the built environment. How can we bring back more parks, green space and wildlife to our UK cities and urban areas? Find out more in our ‘Sandbox’ episode: 'Urban Wonderlands: Grey or Green?' - Biodiversity and its positive effects on our wellbeing. The episode features Buro Happold experts Colin Byrne and Aaron Grainger, special guest Tamsin Westhorpe, and our regular host Andy Duncan. With nature in global decline, it is imperative that all industries take collective action to preserve biodiversity, particularly in urban areas. Our panel explores the importance of the recent Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) regulation, and how it can be applied throughout urban areas and across the UK. Aaron Grainger, associate director, UK ecology and biodiversity management, Buro Happold, said: “Now, we need to assess a site and it is then assigned a numerical value based on lots of different parameters. You then look at what a development is going to provide in terms of biodiversity, which again is assigned a numerical parameter. And then you compare the two and the policy requires developers to leave nature in a 10 percent better state than before.” Find the full episode on all the usual platforms, including Apple Podcasts, Spotify and YouTube. I'm super excited to attend COP16 Colombia and #Bloom24 this week! So much exciting stuff will be announced and agreed, starting with the WWF releasing a position statement on biodiversity credits. TL;DR: 1. There is no such thing as biodiversity offsets. If you want to be nature positive aligned, you need to reverse your own biz impact. 2. Biodiversity projects need to be held to a high standard. 3. We need governance for both buyers and sellers.
#COP16 is here! Dunya Analytics is thrilled to be attending as part of the Nature Tech Collective . If you are in Colombia this week, catch us at the Silverstrand Capital Biodiversity Accelerator showcase, where we will present alongside nature innovators to tackle critical issues. We are committed to raising awareness of the threat of nature loss and sharing our solutions for data-driven change. Don’t miss the chance to connect with our CEO and Founder, Megan Pillsbury, and Chief Science Officer Rebecca Stern. We hope to see you there! #COP16 #DunyaAnalytics

Don't wait for change—be the change.✨Dr. med. Eckart von Hirschhausen and Martin Schaefer on the power of biodiversity. Our Co-Founder Martin Schaefer recently spoke at #DigitalX in Cologne about the vital role of #Nature and #ClimateAction in securing our future. 🌍 He emphasized that each one of us can have a much larger impact on saving nature and preserving the natural resources we all depend on as humans. Alongside Dr. med. Eckart von Hirschhausen, Martin, highlighted that we can't just wait for change—we need to take the lead ourselves. 🔄 We need to "transform pain points into action points," as Eckart aptly put it. 💡 The future depends on our actions today. 🌱 Join us in making a difference. 🌟

We are not at COP16 in Cali, Colombia. Why? We simply do not have the budget for that trip, nor can we afford the opportunity cost of being unavailable for paying work for the entire 10-day stretch. We are not alone in this. None of the folks I know doing tangible conservation and restoration work on the ground here are going, either. I'm not of the mind that these conferences have no value - in fact, it is clear to me that big decisions take place among "movers and shakers" at these events, concepts are solidified into thought leadership, and alliances are formed among people with tremendous magnitudes of power across government, nonprofit, and increasingly, finance sectors. I *am* of the mind that many voices are missing from these dialogues, and that even if those voices could afford to attend, they would likely not be heard or heeded in meaningful ways. Just my speculation, based on decades of experience with the way that power operates. I hope that those attendees who value biodiversity for its own sake, who understand that nature matters because it exists and that we must protect it for existential and not only economic reasons, are heeded. I hope that those who have power over these proceedings intentionally and deliberately open space for those voices and advocate for their influence, even if it makes them unpopular with their colleagues. And I hope that in the future, resources devoted to these conferences are equitably distributed to facilitate the participation of people who spend more time *in environments where biodiversity lives* than at conferences talking about it. Looking forward to hearing about the outcomes. As someone who is directly connected to one of the most threatened and important ecosystem types for biodiversity (coral reefs), this is not just about documents, spreadsheets, or slide decks that make big promises. Success or failure of conceptual "vehicles," and "mechanisms," that "unlock" and "scale" vague policies and plans have tangible outcomes for nature and people. I implore all of the attendees to keep this front of mind. #COP16 #biodiversity #conferences #talk #action #inclusion #power Thank you Open Planet for the beautiful footage.
