Additionally, please note a policy update: Now, only parents or guardians need to be present to pick up meals. This change does not extend to other family members outside of designated parents/guardians. Her husband is in the Navy… Nearly all of the students at Hancock Elementary [in San Diego] have a parent in the military… Now, the school has another way to support them: a food pantry… Military members’ housing allowance counts as income when applying for CalFresh [and therefore Military families require access to a food pantry since they don’t qualify for CalFresh].” 1️⃣, as a condition for federal dollars, no States’ or Locals’ hunger relief programs, like CalFresh, should count any type of Federal cost of living allowance as income, especially when that allowance is not taxed at the Federal level. We can use 2️⃣, there’s a few billionaires on LinkedIn. Yet the Food program needs less than $1M/yr, “A Feeding San Diego spokesperson said it costs about $30,000 to run a school pantry for a year. They’d need more than $670,000 each year to take the remaining schools off the waitlist.” I find it a little perplexing that DARPA can issue around $3M in awards for the Cornucopia Program but we can’t sustain enlisted families. Just a little, perplexing…”DARPA’s Cornucopia program aims to create a variety of healthy new microbial-based foods using three ingredients — air, water, and electricity—with minimal or no supplementation. If successful, troops one day could deploy with a transportable system that makes nourishing and appetizing food on demand in remote locations, obviating costly and brittle food supply chains.” — https://lnkd.in/eHmkji2D

Today is Fat Tuesday. It is the official last day of Mardis Gras. Everyone assumes Mardis Gras was started in New Orleans, but really Mobile, Alabama claims to be the birthplace of the 2 week party. Mardis Gras, specifically Jo Cain Sunday, Lundi Gras (Monday) and Fat Tuesday were historically and consistently the worst 3 day staffing crisis ever. I literally dreaded these days when the new year began. I would have PTO requests in November with the negotiation tactics of working every holiday at end of the year in order to be off on specific dates for the Mardi Gras season. It was literally the hardest 3 days EVER! I know this sounds dramatic but here are the facts: Income tax return season, Mardis Gras and the schools are out. It is a triple threat! A lot of no call no shows etc. We were always living on a prayer the final weekend of the 2 week celebration! Do you have a time of year with this type of staffing crisis as well?
