It is clear that engineering biology, or the combination of #biological, #AI, and #engineering principles to create new biological systems, is promising new possibilities for all industries, not just healthcare, food and agriculture. In our latest report from the Capgemini Research Institute, enterprise leaders across sectors globally agreed that these solutions will disrupt every industry, from CPG and retail to energy and automotive. AI will play a key role in accelerating biosolutions by increasing the efficiency of R&D processes, reducing costs, optimizing bio processes and shortening go-to-market time. However, there are still challenges that need to be overcome to encourage adoption. For example, scaling lab breakthroughs and achieving performance and cost efficiency will be imperative. As will addressing the misconceptions and raising public awareness of its benefits. I never had to follow up on a Post before. 🤔 However, I am glad to do it now thanks to the great engagement 🙏 and amount of feedback received after the classification of Biologicals for agriculture input (see in comments below). I thought the least I can do was to refine and adapt my earlier proposal with the insights received. This classification is meant to be for communication and simple representation of the nature of products (technologies) used for Biostimulants, Biofertilizers and Biocontrols. It does not depict a regulatory classification nor a representation of the function of the biologicals. The following number of points have been taken into account: ➡ Simplification of segmentation : Microbial, Macrobials, Inerts and Biochemicals (Pam Marrone, Jane Fife) ➡ Regrouping natural extracts, pheromones, and hormones under Biochemical segment, using macromolecules for novel peptides/proteins/Nucleic acids (Eric Bartels and Karel Bolckmans) ➡ Bacillus back to its own Bacterial space and entomopathogenic fungi added (Mounir Hassani, PhD and Pasco Avery) I expect this will be a better version than the previous one for communication and presentation purpose. I am working on additional layers to encompass the functions as well as the companies advancing each technology space.
